(Bundesliga 2022/2023): Highlights Leipzig - Mainz

13 goals in 14 matches. Timo Werner Mainz's historical nemesis. Leipzig's Marco Roser, a former Mainz teammate of 05ers opposite number Bo Svensson, whose team are a true form horse. Six unbeaten and full of self-belief. Underlined by a superb display in Saxony. Markus Ingwardsen, nine minutes in. That's nine for the Danes. Best ever scoring season in the Bundesliga. On the half hour, it was nearly 2-0. Leipzig caught fast asleep. Anton Stach's cross, met by Leandro Barrero. Luxemburgers downward header, clipping Janis Blazbisch's crossbar. A nearly moment for Mainz. Leipzig took 41 minutes to make a clear chance. And when it came, it was Werner who had it. Racing clear, but denied by Robin Zentner. A veteran of Mainz's record. Eight-nil loss in this stadium back in 2019. Home sporting director Max Ebel won't have enjoyed this. Though he may well have grudgingly admired Mainz's second goal. 1.96m, 6ft5, Ludovic Hajok. Proving the old adage of good feet for a big man. A truly special goal. Dominic Corr had come in to Mainz's midfield to add extra muscle. Not to score goals like this. This to clinch the game. And to seal a new personal best of three for Corr in a Bundesliga season. Leipzig chance is scarce. On a day nothing seemed to work. Dani Almo's late shot cleared the crossbar. On a day, the Hortenbullen drew a blank. Mainz's first ever win away to Leipzig will live long in the memory for Hajok's wonderful goal. Leipzig's top four place now is under serious threat.
