HIGHLIGHTS | Chelsea vs. Olympique Lyonnais (UEFA Women's Champions League 2022-23)

What an occasion this is and a special moment for the Chelsea players and the Lyon players. Here an opportunity opening up for Lyon with Maseri over to the right hand side to find Cascarino looks for the strike spilled by Berger still not cleared away by Chelsea and eventually Carter. Yeah terrific movement van der Donk that just opened up the space for Bruun but I think we saw that on Sunday as well just a little bit of wobble in front of goal defensively Chelsea but they managed to get it away. They all want to use their full backs more the type of system that they play well Cascarino was able to keep the ball alive Ericsson's there and back out to Bruun well a chance gifted to Lyon to do better Brad I don't know whether Ericsson got a shout here because she was under no pressure whatsoever she could have probably taken a touch brought it down headed it back to the goalkeeper and Jess Carter I think was saying to it I should have said something I did say something but that's a massive chance for Bruun and Lyon basically you've got to keep your composure there and she just was wild now Lauren James cheered on by the crowd here in Stamford Bridge James through to Sam Kerr could be one-on-one Sam Kerr to finish and she's denied by Endler I'll tell you what what a terrific technically executed ball that is from Lauren James just right behind the defender right into Sam Kerr's path and Endler did really well she had a look up by the time Sam Kerr had looked up Endler was right out of a goal so she had to make a decision Perisset takes it short to James being put under pressure there by van der Donk he's trying to get away Lauren James does so as well brilliantly and forces the save from Endler technically probably the standout player on the pitch tonight and then that little burst of pace just mesmerizes defenders whether it's with her feet or a body movement but then she's got absolute hammer of a right foot Senior Bruun playing it on to Horat now van der Donk lifts it over looking for Senior Bruun who's waiting for it straight into the hands of Anka Trimburger asking for an offside again it's quite open the movement of Leon I think it was the first pass that perhaps could have been offside but definitely not Bruun Bruun and Cascarino are playing really wide apart the change which we'll see Damaris Eguerola make way for Sara Dabrits well here comes that change then so Mielda on for Perisset who was forced off injured the strength and depth that Chelsea have even with the injuries Mielda coming on all defending now for Chelsea to try and deny Leon a chance to progress Wendy Renard flicks on but Carter tried to get there ahead of Horat Horat was able to get the cross in and it's Gilles who gets the goal for Leon Vanessa Gilles was able to tap her from close range and what an important goal that could turn out to be for the eight-time European champions right hand side didn't really deal with the set piece as it comes in Chelsea it's a great little knock over there chest over from Renard but that ball in there and that's the tiniest of spaces that Gilles gets the ball through early cross in from Horat Ericsson's trying to cover she got something to it but what a finish that is from the centre back and she's been excellent over the two legs just guiding it in well Vanessa Gilles well that will be that for normal time and neither team were able to be separated Chelsea who had the lead in the first leg in France they show the clever little ball back to Hegerberg Hegerberg across and missed by Ericsson back out to Dabrits and it's Sara Dabrits in extra time who fires Leon into the lead now this time it's Hegerberg down this right hand side when he's usually here in the middle it's a good ball in and Chelsea just let the ball through they can't get rid of it and the strike by Dabrits is not a clean strike past Ericsson past Buchanan lands kindly at the feet of Dabrits cannot really get scuffs it a little bit but it wrong foots Berger and agonisingly but joyously agonisingly for Chelsea but joyously for Leon it nestles in the back of the net Berger with the delivery away by Reynard back in by Sam Kerr looking for Connor Reid now it lands to Lauren James Lauren James with some time goes down looks to the referee looks for a penalty the referee says no have another look at it it's terrific feet in the end I thought she was going to strike it first she's definitely got clicked well the referee's been told to go and have a look and we usually know what this means well the clip from Bayshow onto the feet of James what she did is she kicked James's right foot which kicked it onto a left here we go then penalty to Chelsea incredible moment right at the end up against the experienced Christian Endler is this the Elders moment it's certainly who are back level in the tie from the spot what a brilliant penalty under extreme pressure and Chelsea have taken it all the way to penalties coolest woman in the place what a penalty that is under extreme pressure well Emma Hayes couldn't even look so penalties it is then Leon who thought they'd made it all the way through Mielda against Endler Mielda scores Reynard replies and he's a for Chelsea well she chose the right way and made it look easy when I gave her the eyes the other way but she read it Berger who won the penalty for her side to get them to this stage Lauren James steps up and it's saved by Endler and how's it she Lauren James you would expect her to strike it well didn't strike it as well as can she deliver for Chelsea on this crucial European night Carter steps up and scores brilliantly Heran who scored eight goals so far this season up against Berger and it's saved and Chelsea are through to the semi-finals of the Champions League they knock out the Champions League holders Leon to make a mistake and unfortunately for Lindsay Heran it was her Berger guessed the right way and it's a strong hand Stamford Bridge in absolute raptures
