Hello everyone.
I recently saw Helen Anderson do the 50 pound outfit
challenge with Jack Mate.
Is that his name still or is it just Jack?
And I really, really enjoyed that video.
So I thought, you know what, I wanna give this a shot.
However, first problem is I don't have a friend
to do that video with.
Second problem is I don't have a spare 100 pounds to spend.
So I thought, you know what, I'm gonna compress it down.
I'm gonna do the 20 pound outfit challenge.
So I searched to see if that was a thing.
No one's done it for ages and barely anyone did it
when it was a thing.
And every video I watched, the people just went to Primark
and did the whole outfit from Primark,
which I think is a bit of a cheat
because that's not too difficult.
So I set myself the challenge of getting an entire outfit
for less than 20 pounds.
And I originally set a rule that I wasn't allowed
to buy two things from the same shop,
which is also what Jack and Helen did,
but obviously it's a lot easier
when you've got 50 pounds to spend.
It proved difficult.
It took me about three hours around a shopping center,
but I got there in the end.
And I never realized how expensive clothes are before.
So I'm gonna get started and show you
what I picked up for my outfit,
which came to 19 pounds and 99 pence.
I had one penny left to spend.
So when I got to the shopping center,
I thought, do you know what,
I'm gonna start off with shoes
because I thought shoes would be
the most difficult thing to find.
I also chose to get the shoes from Primark
because that's where you can get the cheapest shoes.
And I picked up this little pair of gray slip-on shoes.
I think they're actually quite cute.
I mean, they don't fit me that well.
And these were three pounds, it said on the sale rack.
Went to the checkout, one pound.
I was buzzing.
I'm sure the woman has never seen a girl
be so excited over one pound pair of shoes.
Next up, I thought my best bet for trousers or a skirt
was gonna be New Look.
One, because their clothes fit me really well.
And two, because they're not overpriced at all.
Especially if you look in the sale rack,
there is always a gem.
And I found just that, an absolute gem.
I found this pair of denim dungarees.
I actually really like these.
These were on sale.
I think they were supposed to be 24.99 or 29.99.
I'm not too sure.
And I got them for 11 pounds.
So this is the most expensive thing in this outfit.
However, it's like the main bulk of the outfit.
So it's got a little zip on the side.
It's got a pocket on the front.
I tried them on and the trousers are actually really skinny
as you will see, which I really liked.
They are shorter trousers, so it's a bit more summery.
But I guess you could get away with wearing them in autumn.
They're just pretty standard dungarees.
But I think they look adorable.
And for 11 pounds, you can't go wrong.
Next up, this was the hardest thing to find.
It was the T-shirt to go underneath the dungarees.
I looked everywhere and I was being quite picky
with the type of T-shirt I wanted, I have to admit.
I wanted a gray T-shirt to match the shoes.
So this was from Select.
I've never shopped in Select before,
but I was very pleasantly surprised.
So I picked up this little gray top.
It's got this cute embroidery on it.
It says Miss You.
It's got a little ice cream milkshake and a cherry.
I just think that is super cute.
And I think I'll actually wear this T-shirt
with high-waisted black skinny jeans.
And this was reduced from 8.99 to 3.99,
so I'm very happy about that.
So by this point, I had spent one pound on the shoes,
11 pounds on the dungarees, and 3.99 on this T-shirt.
So I wasn't doing too badly.
I had four pounds left.
And I saw a lot of people
that had done this outfit challenge just stop at clothes,
but I thought, you know what, I've got four pounds left.
I'm gonna go for accessories.
I looked everywhere for some cheap jewelry
or some kind of cheap bag, some sunglasses or whatever.
And honestly, nowhere had anything under four pounds.
I was absolutely shocked at the price of everything.
I never noticed how expensive accessories are
until I put myself on a strict budget.
So unfortunately, I did have to break my rule a little bit
and head back to Primark
because I knew the accessories would be cheap
and I knew they would be nice things
that I actually would like to wear.
The first thing I found, I actually haven't tried them on,
I just saw them, I was like, they're cheap,
I'll pick them up, they're an accessory,
are these sunglasses.
These were originally three pounds
and then they were reduced to one pound.
So I was left with three pounds at this point.
And I know you can't really be picky with this challenge,
but I was being really picky with the necklace.
I wanted a burgundy choker
to match the embroidery on the T-shirt
so it didn't look out of place.
I went to Topshop, they had the perfect one.
It was just plain burgundy, it was velvet,
it was really lovely, it was nine pounds.
And I was like, are you joking me?
I've got like three pounds left.
So then when I was in Primark,
I was looking through the necklaces, guess what I found?
Three velvet chokers, one small black one,
one small burgundy one, and one large black one.
I am so happy.
These were one pound 50,
which I just think proves
that Topshop's prices are ridiculous
because just this burgundy choker in Topshop was nine pounds
or you can get these three for one pound 50.
And really what is gonna be the massive difference
between the quality?
It's not like you're gonna live in the necklace.
So I think, why pay nine pounds when you can pay one pound 50?
I'm very impressed with these.
And I think I'll actually wear them a lot as well.
Then I had one pound 51 left to spend.
So I picked up a little headband.
I wish this was burgundy so it matched the outfit more,
but sadly they didn't have a burgundy flannel headband.
And by this point I thought,
you've got to stop being picky, just pick anything up.
So I've got this headband, which was one pound 50.
It's actually really cute.
It's stretchy at the back.
It's got little wires in the bow
so you can adjust them to where you want them.
I'm not sure how much wear I'm gonna get out of this,
but it was one pound 50
and I thought it would complete the outfit, so whatever.
So that was everything that I picked up for my outfit.
I will insert now the entire outfit look put together.
I actually am quite a fan of this outfit.
It's not something I would usually wear.
I'm glad that I went out and did it
and I'm glad I restricted myself
to 20 pounds rather than 50.
So I felt like 20 pounds was a good amount
to justify if I don't wear the outfit,
but certain parts of this outfit
I actually think I will wear a lot.
I really like the dungarees.
I like the T-shirt.
I like the chokers.
They are all big yeses from me.
So I'm happy that I did this video.
I really, really enjoyed hunting around the shops
and it's really opened my eyes, to be honest with you,
how overly priced a lot of things are.
So that is this week's video.
Remember to subscribe and you can see my videos
every Monday and every Thursday at 5 p.m.
