(Premier League 2022/2023): Highlights Southampton - Aston Villa

Welcome to the South Coast and St Mary's Stadium as Nathan Jones Southampton host Unai Emery's Aston Villa. It is a chilly day down on the South Coast. It's the visitors who get us underway and it'll be interesting Matt to see. Now Ward-Prowse first time layoff to Walker-Peters. Diallo rolled right to Lianco. His cross is a dangerous one and it finds its way into the back of the net but the flag has gone up on the far side. Well Che Adams had the chance to put it away. He has much more influence over transfer dealings and who they're going to bring in. Bailey rolls the ball across. Chance here which is beaten out by Berzunu. Slashed over the top by Leon Bailey. I think it's been excellent so far in this game. Getting the ball to this young man a little more often since halftime. Good work by Adam Armstrong to retrieve the loose ball. Ward-Prowse first time delivery towards the back post. Walker-Peters nudges it forwards to James Ward-Prowse who pulls the ball back. Made by Martinez. Big save. Making his way through the challenges. Cross headed away by Tyrone Mings. Chance to do it again. Mara's in there. The ball roll back to Ward-Prowse. There is going to be another look at this for Michael Salisbury. The Villa players were making the point to the referee that they felt that there was a foul in there on Jacob Ramsey. So Michael Salisbury will look at this several times. There's enough contact for the referee to feel that that's a foul. Michael Salisbury has disallowed the goal. There's the nudge from Elia Nussi. Brings the ball down. Will his side be cavalier? Trying to find a winning moment here. Douglas Luiz clips in the cross. What kings is that? Zaston Villa into the lead. Well he was backed by Unai Emery this week saying he is on number nine and he's just provided the moment. He might just have strayed into an offside position Matt as we take another look. Well like these decisions always are it's extremely tight but one thing's for sure that's very much a number nine's goal. Middle of the box. Cross comes in. He wins the header. VAR. Will the same happen to Aston Villa? Still we wait. The goal will stand. Holly Watkins confirmed on side. It's just a shame that they'll potentially lose the game from a sloppy goal they've conceded from a set piece. Gineppo. They aren't giving it up just yet Southampton. Gineppo has a goal and it's clawed away from Emiliano Martinez. Under Unai Emery. There is the full-time whistle. Holly Watkins goal wins this game for Aston Villa. A third successive win.
