(Premier League 2022/2023): Highlights Liverpool - Chelsea

Hello from Jim Pratford and Jim Beglin at Anfield for Liverpool against Chelsea in week 21 of the Premier League season. The last two meetings of Liverpool and Chelsea have been in cup finals, but they reconvene with reputations rather than silverware on the line. Their league seasons are to be salvaged in the second half of the season. And it bounces awkwardly, Alisson saving the first one but not the second. Havertz bundles it in, Chelsea ahead inside three minutes. Well, it's the perfect settler for Chelsea. I mean, initially it was won by Badia Scheel. It should have been tucked into the back of the net by the first attempt. But once that failed, I mean, it just fell perfectly for Kai Havertz. And Thiago Silva will wonder why he didn't manage to convert. There's obviously a suspicion of offside in all of this, so Liverpool might get lucky with VAR here. Michael Oliver is to continue to hold the kick-off. The position has saved Liverpool. And those early Chelsea celebrations are cut short. It was the throwback to Brentford, and that's why. Most advanced of the Chelsea players here. Certainly not too far adrift. It's across the face, Badia Scheel! Decent stop from Alisson. Disappointed had that got past him, but good reactions from the Brazilian. And Chelsea were disciplined in holding the runs and not going too early. And it misses everyone. I think still a very good save, you know, because he's moving as fast as he can, I suppose, trying to make his way over to the left-hand side. And he did have to readjust. Well, it's been a kind of grey, flat day, Anfield, with the new stand being erected away to our left-hand side behind the Anfield road end, resembling a building site at the moment. Feels like that as well, really, as Salah fails to hit the target. Naby Keita, once he picks it up in space, and then he just has eyes for Salah, and this is a gorgeous pass, outside of the right foot. And the control is wonderful. Well, if he gives you an inch, you're still not catching him. Here's Ziyech. And still. And still. Everything but the finish. Ziyech. Important clearance. Joe Gomez, Kukerea. Modric. Modric taking it on again, and still taking it on! Nearly brilliant. And he ended up finding the outside of the side netting. But this is wonderful footwork. Tremendous. I mean, this guy could have... That would be a feather in the Chelsea cap. Modric. It's Chakwemeka! More important defending. They could have saved two points, that challenge. Once it comes back from Modric, he needs to hit it. It's a point that does little for either in a season where both clubs now have to trade in threes.
