Eating around in Tsukiji.
15 shops we recommend.
I'm Akane Maru.
Born and raised in Japan.
Today, we will be eating around in Tsukiji.
Tsukiji has great ingredients from all over Japan.
And there are about 460 shops.
Out of these, we will introduce 15 stores that are especially popular.
There will be useful info for sightseeing as well.
So, stay tuned.
Now, let's get started.
Tsukiji, where we are introducing today, is located here in Tokyo.
Here we are at Tsukiji.
Now, you must be careful.
Most of the stores in Tsukiji are closed on Wednesdays, Sundays, and holidays.
So, these days are not good for visiting.
And, most stores close by 14 o'clock.
So, you should come in early hours.
First, the food court, which is not very widely known.
This food court is open until 18 o'clock.
So, even after all the other shops are closed, you can come here.
There are six stores.
And we recommend the tuna specialty store, Tekkaya.
At this store, you can eat seafood rice balls with tuna in it.
They only use fresh tuna.
So, the color is beautiful.
When you order a seafood rice ball, miso soup comes with it.
Let's eat the red flesh first.
It has a thick flavor.
It's thick and filling.
Next, medium fatty tuna.
Beautiful pink.
It melts as soon as I put it in my mouth.
With this tuna, I can eat rice forever.
That's all for the food court.
Now, let's go and eat around in Tsukiji.
The first store we'll show you is Kitsuneya, where people are always making lines.
It was established in 1947.
And it's a shop with a history of more than 70 years.
First, Horomon-ni, tribe stew, which they make with sauce that has been used since the establishment.
They stew with Hachomiso, which is made from beans, so it tastes sweet and rich.
They stew it for so long, so there's no smell of tripe.
The tripe with miso soaked in melts.
The texture of konjac adds a good accent.
This thick flavor makes me want to drink beer.
You should try it with shichimi spice, too.
The spice brings out the flavor.
Next, beef rice ball.
They simmer beef with soy sauce, sugar, and miso until it's loosened.
Great smell of soy sauce and miso.
The beef melts in my mouth.
It has a thick flavor, which matches perfectly with the rice.
The rice is delicious even just with the sauce.
FYI, at this shop, they don't sell tripe stew as a single item.
You must order rice or drinks, so be noted.
Okay, let's go to the next shop.
Next, Tsukiji Soratsuki.
It's a strawberry sweet specialty store.
It's famous on SNS for its cute sweets.
They have many kinds of sweets, but we'll have soft-serve ice cream today.
They have strawberry flavor and milk flavor, and we chose the mixed, which we can enjoy both flavors.
Look at the big strawberry! So cute!
The strawberry has nice sourness and sweetness.
With the sweetness of the soft-serve ice cream, it gets even more delicious.
Let's taste the soft-serve ice cream, too.
It has some ice grains and has a texture like gelato.
The sweetness of milk and sourness of strawberry match so well.
The third shop we'll show you is sweet potato dessert specialty store, Shimizu.
It opened in October 2020, so it's pretty new.
Out of all the desserts, we chose this especially popular dessert.
This is Mont Blanc cake with sweet potato.
They make the sweet potato sweeter by aging for about two months after harvest.
It's topped with fried sweet potato chip. Awesome!
It's nice and crispy.
Without any seasonings, it has natural sweetness.
The sweet potato paste melts in my mouth.
It has a sweet and rich flavor.
It also has vanilla ice cream in it.
The sweet potato paste gets more creamy.
The ice cream has less sweetness, which brings out the flavor of the sweet potato.
On the bottom, there are sweet-seasoned sweet potatoes.
The melting ice cream gets soaked in and is even more delicious.
It's a dessert which you can taste a mouthful of sweet potatoes.
Next, Tsukiji Sanokiya.
It's known for its unique taiyaki.
They have taiyaki which has a shape of tuna.
The shell is crispy. I love the texture.
The size is big and is filling.
On the inside, there are lots of anko.
It's not too sweet, just the right sweetness.
Okay, let's go to the next shop.
The sixth shop we'll introduce is Asahi Honten Tsukiji Ten.
Here, you can eat rice crackers with one whole octopus.
FYI, this shop appears on the video of Enoshima we uploaded before.
It's a popular shop which has waiting lines every day.
The freshly baked octopus cracker is crispy and delicious.
Today, why don't we try a cracker with shrimp instead of octopus?
They spread the dough on the iron plate, put one shrimp on, and bake with pressure.
After five minutes, it's almost bigger than my face.
The savory smell of shrimp is fantastic.
The flavor of shrimp gets soaked in the cracker and makes it a rich flavor.
Right next to the previous store, there's Tsukiji Croquette.
It opened in 2020, so it's a fairly new shop.
At this shop, you can eat unique croquette, which is this monja croquette.
Monjayaki, a Tokyo local specialty, is in a croquette.
The smell of bonito flakes and aonori is nice.
Inside, there's cabbage, red pickled ginger, noodles, etc.
And it's totally like monjayaki.
It's big and filling.
The next shop is also popular for its fried food, Ajinohamato.
At this shop, they mainly sell fish paste cakes.
And their popular item is this one, menchikatsu.
They use tuna for this menchikatsu.
It has a nice smell of the sauce.
Minced tuna is smooth.
The thick flavored sauce matches so well.
It's juicy and addictive.
The next shop is Yoshizawa Shoten.
It's a popular butcher where you can buy expensive Japanese beef at a low price.
Let's try menchikatsu with Japanese beef.
It's made with Japanese beef, but the price is low.
The rough breadcrumbs for the coating have a crunchy texture.
The Japanese beef inside is so juicy and melts in my mouth.
What a luxurious menchikatsu.
The next shop is Maguro no Miyako.
At this shop, you can eat all kinds of freshly grilled seafood.
The grilled seafood smell is great.
They have many kinds of seafood, and we chose the most popular item.
This is scallop, shrimp, tuna, and sea urchin on the shell of scallop.
There's plenty, almost overflowing.
How luxurious.
The smell of soy sauce is so good.
The shrimp is huge and has a plump texture.
It also has a strong sweetness.
The scallop is thick.
The flavor of sea urchin explodes in my mouth.
The tuna is juicy, as if it's meat.
This dish makes me want to drink.
The next shop is Tomboya.
This shop is a tuna steak specialty store, and you can eat freshly grilled tuna.
Let's sprinkle some salt and pepper on the grilled tuna and eat.
It's crispy on the outside and moist on the inside.
It has fat and is very juicy.
Next, we're going to show you more luxurious skewered seafood.
The 12th shop is Tsukiji Teppanyaki Juju.
At this store, you can have grilled skewered meat and seafood.
We ordered this one, which has many kinds of flavors.
On this skewer, there's shrimp, scallops, octopus, and eel.
So luxurious, huh?
The barbecue sauce and seafood is the best combination.
The eel has fat and it melts.
The next shop is a beef katsu specialty store, Nikugaki.
At this store, you can eat in.
But since we are eating around today, we ordered sandwiches for takeaway.
This is a set of sandwiches with tonkatsu and beef katsu.
It's great you can eat both kinds at once.
First, the tonkatsu sandwich.
It's thick and filling.
They use sangenton, brand pork.
So it's not tough even after it gets cold.
And it's still moist and tender.
Next, let's eat the beef katsu sandwich.
The sweet sauce matches with the beef.
The crispy texture of the cabbage adds a good accent to it.
Both beef and pork are delicious.
Next, Japanese rolled omelet specialty store, Yamacho.
It was established more than 70 years ago and has a long history.
At this store, you can actually see how they fry the eggs.
Whoa, it's not burnt and the egg is beautifully fried.
Let's eat the freshly rolled egg.
The smell of Japanese dashi is irresistible.
It has a sweetness almost like dessert.
It's surprisingly fluffy.
The price is low, which is also great.
Alright, let's go to the next shop.
The last one we'll show you today is a tuna specialty store, Magurya Krogen.
It's a super popular store, which has waiting lines every day.
At this shop, you can eat fresh seafood rice balls and sushi.
They will make sushi seared as well, so you can enjoy tuna in many ways.
We chose this seafood rice ball with three kinds of flavors.
It has tuna, negitoro, and salmon.
It has a small amount of rice, so it's perfect for those who want to eat many kinds of dishes.
Negitoro is smooth and creamy.
It has a strong flavor of tuna.
The salmon is thick and filling.
It also has fat.
This tuna is medium fatty tuna.
It melts and disappears as soon as I put it in my mouth.
By the way, this shop's soy sauce has sweetness, so it matches with sashimi perfectly.
And with the rice, too.
This is amazingly delicious.
In Tsukiji, you can eat around many kinds of food, so it's so much fun.
You should definitely try the shops we introduced.
