Street food in Osaka, top 15 that you must try.
Samurai Junjiro channel.
Hi, I'm Samurai Junjiro, born and raised in Japan.
Today's video is all about street food in Osaka.
From two very frequently visited tourist areas,
we picked 15 places that you should check out.
Classic Osaka to the newly found.
We'll cover all in the video,
so stay with us till the last.
Now, let's get started.
We have arrived at Shin-Osaka Station.
The first place we'll be covering today
is Kuromon Ichiba Market,
the place where the fresh food gathers from all over Japan.
We'll be moving to Namba Station
by Midosuji Line of Osaka Metro.
To get to the market from Namba Station,
you'd want to go through underground shopping street
called Namba Walk for about 10 minutes.
Once you see the sign of Nihonbashi Station,
you'd want to walk towards fifth exit.
When you are out, the entrance of the Kuromon Ichiba Market
is in the very front of your view.
This is the most popular market of Osaka,
Kuromon Ichiba Market.
With over 100 stores,
30,000 of people visit here per day.
The market is celebrating its 200th anniversary this year,
and the place is very historical.
We'll be showing you guys
five of our favorite places from the market.
The first of it all is this store right here
called Shin-Uoe.
The store has been here from 70 years back.
Here, you can grill and eat fresh clams and crabs.
We picked this popular menu for today.
This is skewered eel,
which is first grilled and then steamed.
The skewer has plenty of sweet and salty sauce
made of soy sauce and Japanese sake liquor on top,
and it's so fragrant.
The eel is big with quite a thickness,
but the price is very affordable.
Once it's in your mouth, it melts and disappears.
It's pretty fatty for sure.
The fish is very fluffy, too.
Eel in the market sure is high quality.
We are stopping by to talk about Kashin Sohonten next.
The store specializes in plates using fresh fish and clams.
We'll be trying this for today.
This is miso bean soup made with broth
from shrimps and crabs.
Since it's been cooked for a long time,
the goodness from the seafood is really fused.
The smell really reminds us of shores.
The broth has really been extracted from the clams, too.
The soup comes with two different types of seaweed
called wakame and mozuku, so the textures are great.
This rich miso soup has really helped me
warm up from the core of my body.
Next, we'll cover kuromon mura,
specializing in Japanese wagyu beef.
You can try wagyu beef skewers cooked on iron plates.
Savory aroma of meat is filling the surroundings.
It's ready once the skewers are dipped into sauce.
The price is good for five slices of wagyu beef.
The fruity sweet sauce is really elevating the meat flavor.
It's so fatty and juicy.
The following store is called Uofuku.
The store will grill fresh clams and sea urchin for you.
We picked the top seller, scallop.
By pouring soy sauce over scallops
grilled with butter on top, it's ready for a taste test.
Some kind of broth is included in the soy sauce,
so it smells even more fragrant.
The scallop itself has thickness and looks filling.
The sweet butter and scallop are perfect together.
Mental part of the scallop is chewy
and it has brilliant texture.
Makes me want to eat with a drink.
Maguroya Kurogin is where we are picking up next.
The store specializes in serving tuna plates,
so you can try fresh tuna as raw sashimi and sushi.
Today, we are trying sushi in the park
that the store recommends.
After it's been ordered,
clean tuna is assembled into sushi and served.
This is the most fattiest portion of tuna.
The marble of fat is beautifully shown on the surface
and it's almost like glowing.
Each portion of tuna is cut in large pieces,
so it fills up in your stomach.
Let's have it with soy sauce and wasabi.
It melts once it's in your mouth.
It's fatty, but there's no fishiness because it's fresh.
Such a high-end sushi.
This wraps the summary of Kuromon Ichiba Market.
We'll be heading to chat about Dotonbori.
This is the most visited area in Osaka,
attracting many tourists.
This area has as much as 140 stores.
We'll be sharing 10 stores from the area.
Let's first begin by trying out Octopus Mall Takoyaki,
which represents food of Osaka.
Store we are going to talk about
is called Dotonbori Kukuru.
It has stores around Japan,
but this store is the head store.
The takoyaki that is prepared and finished
with a splash of white wine has fruity scent.
It goes so well with the sweet, rich sauce.
The other store is called Takoyaki Juhachiban.
Takoyaki from here has deep batter tempura bits
in the filling.
Its crispy texture is the distinct feature
of this store's takoyaki.
I especially recommend on trying out takoyaki
with salt-based green onion dressing.
Takoyaki Doraku Wanaka is where we'll touch upon the next.
There's 14 stores around Osaka,
and it's been featured on the Michelin Guide.
This store's takoyaki had salted ginger in the filling
instead of the typical red pickled ginger.
With the perfect hint of saltiness
and broth from bonito flakes,
the ball tastes very hearty.
Not picking up takoyaki,
we decided to try this plate out.
This is called takosen,
which consists of two pronged crackers,
sandwiching takoyaki and seasoned with sauce and mayonnaise.
The price is reasonable with small volume,
so perfect for a food tour strolling.
The crispy finish of the cracker
and creamy takoyaki are the best.
It's so light like a snack and very addictive.
Let's pick up on this store, Odori Dako.
With nine stores centering in Osaka,
the store is well-known for visit
of former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
Takoyaki here has one whole small octopus inside as filling.
We picked the classic sauce, a mayo-flavored one for now.
The broth is strong and fragrant.
You can really taste it from takoyaki.
The octopus is very chewy and perfect.
You can really taste the sweetness too.
With crispy outside, creamy inside.
Really filling takoyaki.
Followed by that, we are sharing about the head store
of Gogoichi Hourai Honten.
With more than 50 chain stores,
this is a Chinese restaurant that began in 1945.
And we cannot miss out on the most famous menu in the store.
It's a pork bun, each handmade by chef.
It sells as much as 170,000 a day.
Inside its fluffy bun, pork and onion filling is packed.
Sweet onion and juicy pork are in perfect harmony.
The bun is moderately sweet too.
Let's explore for more.
The other store we wanted to touch on
is this Andrew No Egg Tart.
It's an egg tart store that came from Macau 20 years ago.
The store sells well and it forms line of customers
wanting to buy the tarts.
You can pick variety of tarts,
but we picked the classic egg and fresh cream tart.
The bottom tart is made of pie crust,
so you get to try lighter and crispy mouth feel
compared to classic tart.
Custard cream with brown finish
has a texture like custard pudding and it's so creamy.
The egg has really rich flavor.
This must appeals to sweet too.
Osaka Osho is where we'll share next.
With 350 chain stores around Japan,
this is a popular Chinese restaurant
and here is its head store.
You could look in the menu for so many,
but we are getting the most ordered dumpling.
The smell of garlic is very appetizing.
The dumpling skin is very thinly prepared,
so you get to enjoy the crispy texture.
The pork filling is plenty and juicy.
You can try as it is for they are strongly seasoned,
but eating it with soy sauce and chili oil
is my personal favorite too.
The spiciness and saltiness from the sauce
has leveled up the whole tasting experience.
This would go perfect with beer and I'm craving a drink.
Let's get you introduced to our next list of stores.
It's Wanomiya serving Kobe beef.
The very operator of the store is Kisho Group,
who is number one transaction value of Kobe beef
and we are trying out Kobe beef sushi.
The surface of the beef is grilled on both sides
and assembled with rice.
We picked red meat with less fat.
With its grilled sides, the aroma of meat is so good.
It has melty texture though it's red meat.
The flavor of the meat itself is very strong.
The spiciness of the wasabi has a nice touch.
Kindu Ramen is where we will share next.
Because it's open 24 hours,
this is the ramen store that many likes to come
after drinks.
You can eat by tables on tatami floor mat
so many foreign travelers enjoy the experience too.
The store serves simple pork bone broth ramen.
You can only choose from two
and that is the classic ramen and pork braised ramen.
The soup is clean.
It's definitely a flavor that we crave after drinks.
The braised pork is moist and moderately fatty.
The noodles are quite thin.
It coats the broth soup really well.
Simple yet definitely addictive ramen.
Let's stroll for the following.
Lastly, we are introducing to you Kanido Raku.
Stands out to many for its huge craft
moving sign boards in Dotonbori.
There's over 40 stores around Japan
but this store is its head.
You can dine in for luxurious crab dishes
but you can also have it to go.
Since we are at its head store,
we'll try the limited menu that can only be eaten here.
This is a bomb packed with crab meat filling.
The sale began early January this year
and it sells out every single day.
The filling is packed with crab meat.
The whole flavor of crab gushes in your mouth.
It tastes very rich from the crab butter too.
Try eating it with karashi mustard mayonnaise.
The spiciness of the mustard elevates the flavor of crab.
What a rich bun.
Osaka is full of delicious gourmet and amazing cities.
