Led by Austin Reaves' career-high 35 points (9-14 FG), along with 6 rebounds and 6 assists, the Los Angeles Lakers defeat the Orlando Magic, 111-105. Anthony Davis added 15 points and 11 rebounds in the victory, while Paolo Banchero tallied 21 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists for the Magic. The Lakers improve to 35-37 on the season, while the Magic fall to 29-43.
I still look for them to try to get the ball inside to A.D., and A.D. has to do a job of reading when he can go and when he can't.
Well, the Lakers, 35 lineups in 72 games. Second straight game with this lineup. This lineup is 2-2 when it comes to wins.
But all of a sudden, they've fallen now to 3 below 500. They've lost 2 in a row and 3 out of their last 4, and Carroll puts it in.
Well, you don't look for that to happen again tonight. That time, a cross screen, and the Lakers really didn't talk.
And Troy Brown hits it from the outside, and the Lakers are on the board.
But then he goes a long stretch without getting another field goal to Jim.
What a nice comeback story Markel Fultz has been. Look at this spin by Bogner. And he goes in and scores with the left hand.
Back on December the 27th, when the Lakers won by 19. Three-pointer, going to hit the back iron. Look at Carter Jr. doing work, beating the Lakers and throwing it down.
Monique Beasley, boy, he's on a two-point tear. Look at her running. A lot of energy so far here for Orlando. Drive, kick, Vancaro, got it.
Suggs is missing his second straight. Vancaro, all the way to the basket, strong. And he'll get an add-1.
Lakers have the same lineup out on the floor. Vanderbilt, Troy Brown Jr. has got his second three of the evening.
That was a good close, though, by Vancaro, trying to get to the three-point shooter, but nice shot.
Troy Brown played well in Orlando at 15 points, was three out of four from beyond the arc down in Florida in only 17 minutes.
So he's looking for a replay of that, Fultz, the spin and the score.
And the Lakers go down by their largest margin so far, nine.
You know, in their perimeter, shooting has struggled since February, but not tonight.
Davis, mid-range magic, splashes it from 17 feet by Gary Harris.
Vancaro's going to go around Beasley, blocked by A.D.! He timed it perfectly!
Now Vanderbilt, it goes off a foot, Reeves picks it up and scores!
In the NBA, Fultz pulls up, it's all, it's going to be a score as Reeves fouls him, went right into his shooting motion and Austin knows he made an error there.
Reeves, wide open, good find by Truder. Oh, Reeves followed it all the way.
Now he needs some help. Truder, the pump fake, has it if he wants it, takes it, scores it!
After tonight, just 10 left, 5 at home, 5 away, underneath!
Rui tried to throw it down, and it hit the back iron.
Where they have 5 top 8 picks, right now available on their roster.
Bol Bol, he attacks Wengen Gabriel.
Wagner, couple of big steps, and that's Wengen Gabriel, come back to take it away.
That's just remarkable.
Behind the back, Reeves, got it!
Truder for the Lakers, you know he can change speed.
Well, Reeves going to get another chance.
What a tip. Yeah, right out to D'Angelo.
With the Lakers trying to restore order after letting that one get away the other night in Dallas and losing the day before against Houston.
D'Angelo, now it's 2 in a row!
Boy, he's up in unlucky, he's made some really nice moves, but unable to finish 3 on 2.
Reeves, little pass, he just turned and spawned and found Dennis!
And the Lakers are on fire!
From behind the arc, they've made 8 out of 14.
Bol Bol, that one settles in.
The nice high dribble over the head of D'Angelo Russell.
That's what happens when you're 7'2".
Bounce to Wengen Gabriel, that one was in traffic.
Doesn't throw it away because of the hustle.
Look at this! Behind the back, then Truder!
The hustle by Reeves, behind the back to D'Angelo, and the shot knocked!
And the Clippers are at Portland tonight.
The big game in western standings, Ben Carroll right at the elbow scores.
Ben Carroll's having himself quite a first half.
Jim Young, very athletic, very long team.
Another turnover.
Yeah, and like I said, they will turn you over.
And throw it down too!
Played that time by Harris.
Each team with a foul to give here in the final two and a half.
Reeves again charges the lob!
Beautiful lob!
Easley just hit. Austin, you mentioned it, Stu.
He's been the difference maker!
Creates and hits it!
Now you see why he's a crowd favorite.
He's 2 out of 4, 6 points.
And again, that ends their string of 7 straight misses.
But answered right back by Troy Brown!
They didn't have that just abysmal start.
Although they have lost 5 out of 7, but they won yesterday here.
Trying to sweep L.A. as Ben Carroll goes and lays it off the window.
Gary Harris lets it fly. Rebound Davis.
Davis has 7 to match Vanderbilt. At the other end, D'Angelo!
It seemed like he thought he could bank it in on the angle, and he threw it across the board.
I mean, that's a 3-point shooter.
The bench is going to be called upon.
Bounce to A.D. Glides all the way in and rolls it up and in.
The finger roll. The assist goes to D'Lo.
What's A.D. tonight, Stu?
Eh, 50%. 2 out of 4.
Wagner!
Boy, they tried to pitch and block that time, and they couldn't do it.
20-11 to start the quarter.
Orlando. Austin, he's back at it.
Schroeder. Pull-up. Corner of the key. That's off-target.
Good box-out by Wengen, who's in perfect position.
Now Schroeder for 3. Long shot, long rebound.
Who's this time? It's Davis. Here he comes!
They're slow to get into their action. 9 now.
Schroeder. He thought a whistle was going to be called.
Looked at the referee. Everybody froze.
And now Reed scores!
5-4 to play in the quarter. Wagner, not if it goes.
And he gets a 3-point opportunity.
They were behind going into the fourth yesterday afternoon against the Clippers,
and then they put up a 39.
But Tazi counted!
So a 4-point play, in essence, to end the quarter for Orlando.
Reed, he'll back it up.
He'll have to get into the action now.
So they avenge that loss to Houston the other night.
But two games starting the night separating 6-11.
That's it as Wagner hits the bucket.
They don't quite take advantage of that.
Instead it's A.D. facing, spinning, scoring!
Underneath, A.D. blocked!
And it's going to be Laker ball.
10 rebounds for Vanderbilt.
More than anybody else on the Lakers.
It is a 2-point game.
Orlando trying to steal this one.
And Carter Jr. is doing a good job just catching and shooting in a hurry.
Not letting any of the defenders get in position.
Offside, Reed!
Count it!
Fulch flies out of the backcourt.
Fulch is thinking about one thing.
The rim!
Buck Davis!
Missed once!
Tapped twice!
Taken by Orlando!
Fortunately it goes to Russell, but now they're in trouble.
With three, with two, corner three!
Has to go!
And D'Angelo knocks it down!
That's his fourth three in the ballgame.
Anthony pulls up.
Count it!
And one!
That'll take care of that 3-point play by D'Angelo.
Most likely.
Ron Wagner in the attacking 47 feet.
Just outside of the free-throw line.
And we have a one-point game.
And only 3-0-8.
The clock's moving.
D'Angelo Russell down the middle.
Scoops it up and in!
Good aggressive move by D'Angelo.
Nine to shoot.
Two and a half to play.
Wagner.
His team is down by three.
This is for a tie.
Cole Anthony!
We are not!
On their comeback.
Wagner with four to shoot.
When the Lakers get a shot away,
they'll be under a minute to play.
Reeves.
Here he goes.
On its way.
Reeves has it again!
Austin Reeves!
He is clutch right now.
Austin Reeves.
Lakers nursing the two-point advantage for the lead.
Wagner.
No!
Who else but Reeves!
Did a great job of running to it.
Austin getting chased.
Austin getting fouled.
Then it really has to be a foul game for the Magic.
Much greater implications than that one.
Short.
And it's in!
Magic!
19 and 17 at home.
Inbound.
Stolen.
Lakers game over!
Final score, 111-105.
And there's your star tonight, Austin Reeves!
