Voices Of Spring Waltz Op. 410 by Johann Strauss Jr. is one of those famous waltzes that makes you sway in three quarter time as soon as you hear it. In my grandmother's time, the young gentlemen would have been on the lookout for my grandmothers father (my great-grandfather) in order to obtain permission from him to dance with his daughter (my grandmother). My grandmother was very much in sought after. The dance was one of those rare occasions when young people were allowed to come into closer contact – of course, only during the big festivals and under supervision. "It was very exciting" my grandmother recalled. The bachelors would have asked her father for permission and she also asked her father for "just one more dance". There was a lot of joy in my grandmothers eyes when she recalled her youth.
