The NBA offseason is already off to a very hot start.
The crazy thing is we're literally just getting started all offseason, all NBA
season.
I've heard talks about how weak the 2020 NBA draft is, how weak the 2020 NBA free
agency pool is going to be.
Now, if teams truly feel like this free agency pool is weak and this draft pool is
weak, which it's not, the draft pool isn't weak at all.
I say time and time again, there is something for everybody in this draft.
You just have to hope you're making the right pick and you have to hope your team
knows what it's doing when it comes to developing prospects.
Now, back to the NBA free agency pool.
Oh, it's a weak free agency pool, this and that.
You know what that means?
That means we're going to be seeing a lot of roster moves.
I'm talking about trades to make up for the lack of viable free agents in this
year's free agency.
Now, look, check it out.
I'm not going to pretend like I just said some mind blowing stuff, but it's something
that's very relevant to this entire video.
As a matter of fact, it's relevant to the entire landscape of the NBA.
Now, I'm not going to say we're going to see nothing but blockbusters, but hey,
there's a chance we may see quite a few major moves from teams that are looking to
get better, teams that are looking to rebuild, and teams that are trying to find
that guy, that cornerstone that they can build around.
Now, I've seen the Lakers linked to a lot of solid players, one of those being
Serge Ibaka, but he's somebody that's going to command a lot in this free agency
market. The Lakers know this free agency market isn't crazy.
So I have to commend this team for thinking in advance and going out and making
moves. We are all this talk about big market, this big market, that.
But if your team does not have competent management, it might not matter where you
play. Subscribe right now.
You will not want to miss another Get Like Coop video.
And that's facts.
Guys, I've been streaming NBA 2K21 on NextGen having so much fun.
The streams are very interactive.
I stream multiple games and it's just kind of cool to be able to chill with the
community that we've built.
So if you guys want to support the stream, the link will be in the description below.
The link to my NFL channel is also going to be in the description.
Lastly, be sure to drop a like on this video.
It shows me and YouTube that you guys are enjoying the content.
So this video was actually supposed to go up before my video about James Harden
wanting to play for the Brooklyn Nets.
It just so happened that that James Harden news was so big to me, I just stopped
everything and I was like, I have to make a video on this.
The unfortunate thing is, is that this news is also amazing.
The Lakers intend to acquire Dennis Schroeder from the Thunder for Danny Green and
The deal can be formally agreed to in principle on Monday.
Dennis Schroeder going to LA is big time.
I have to say I love it for the Lakers because Dennis Schroeder might not be the
best name, but he's a big time player.
All of the time we see names get overvalued in free agency and on the
trade market. Schroeder brings things to this Los Angeles Lakers team that helped
them not only in the short term, but also the long term.
LeBron James and Anthony Davis are going to love this move for LeBron James.
You lose Rajon Rondo, you lose a high IQ basketball player, you lose somebody that
can step things up on the defensive side of the basketball.
You lose one of the best passers in the game of basketball.
And I could I could keep going.
You know what you lose in Rajon Rondo is you lose a lot of different things.
Now, Schroeder, he's not Rajon Rondo, but he's going to give you some things Rondo
could give you. And he's also going to give you some things Rondo may have not been
able to give you. Now, when you look at Dennis Schroeder, I didn't even know he was
initially available.
You know, maybe I wasn't doing my due diligence and I'm going to say my bad on that
one. But Schroeder's averaging 19 points a game.
He's averaging four boards a game.
He's averaging four assists.
He's 27 years old.
The Lakers get younger, they get faster, they get more athletic and they also get
somebody that's a consistent shooter of the basketball.
Now, Schroeder is shooting the ball at 39 percent from the three point line.
But it gets better because he made 41 percent of his catch and shoot threes in 2019 to
2020. That's on 273 attempts.
Now, take a look at this shot chart.
You show this to LeBron James, you think he's not going to love this?
You get a point guard that's a knockdown shooter.
Not only a knockdown shooter, but able to create their own shot.
Somebody that loves the mid-range game and somebody that loves efficiency.
Now, LeBron James is one of the best slashers, one of the best downhill players in
the NBA. Not only is he one of the best slashers or one of the best downhill players,
he's one of the best passers I've ever seen play the game of basketball.
Very high IQ, very unselfish player.
You lose Danny Green, who had some consistency struggles throughout the year.
And now you upgrade to the very consistent Dennis Schroeder.
And also, you know, Danny Green struggles, they were felt in the playoffs.
Now, Danny Green's a great player.
I think wherever he goes, wherever he ends up more so, he can have an immediate impact.
And I think he's going to have a bounce back season.
He seems like somebody that's a very, very hard worker.
But again, without a doubt, Schroeder's an upgrade.
And this upgrade goes far beyond Schroeder's talent and Schroeder's fit with the Los
Angeles Lakers. And I'm going to talk about that in just a second.
But I mean, come on, let's get real.
We got a lineup of LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and now Schroeder spacing up, being
able to shoot off the catch at a very high rate.
And now what you also like is he has the ability to put the ball on the ground and get
to the basket. Schroeder is a very nice finisher.
He's improved his defense.
When Schroeder is locked and loaded, he can be an absolute menace on the defensive side
of the basketball. And now he's playing with one of the best defensive bigs, if not
the very best in the NBA, in Anthony Davis.
If you're AD, you love this move because Schroeder can flat out get the ball and go.
Anthony Davis, very athletic, loves to run the floor, loves those easy baskets, those
lobs. This fit is just how do we let this happen?
How do the Lakers keep getting away with it?
But hold on. Wait, wait, wait.
There is more.
A hoops type writer pointed out that while swapping green for Schroeder is a wash,
getting off of the number 28 pick saves the Lakers one point nine million dollars
against the hard cap.
In this projection, the Lakers could still resign their top three agents, fill out the
roster and use the mid level as long as they get off of McGee's salary.
So you're telling me the Lakers still have their full mid level exception to go out and
be active buyers in the free agent market.
But they also have the ability to bring back some guys that could be big for them going
forward. Now, a lot of people view this move as, oh, Rondo is gone.
Well, no, Rondo may return if not this year.
Who knows? Maybe he returns in the future.
But what Schroeder gives you is the ability to be comfortable if Rondo doesn't return.
A lot of people are talking about Schroeder as a six man.
And yes, the Lakers could use a scoring punch off the bench and a consistent third
option. Now, also, I didn't even mention that this is the consistent third option the
Lakers have been looking for.
But me personally, I wouldn't mind starting Schroeder.
He's averaging 19 points a game.
He's playing 31 minutes a game.
Let's get more out of you.
You're in Los Angeles now.
You're coming off of one of your most efficient seasons.
Now, we don't want to change your game and change who you are necessarily.
But maybe we try you out as a starter just to see what it looks like.
I can easily see Schroeder pushing 20 plus points per game, especially seeing as he's
never played with anybody as dominant as LeBron James.
Playing with LeBron James makes everybody's lives easier.
The attention he grabs is on another level.
Here's the thing that really gets me.
L.A. hasn't dealt Kyle Kuzma yet.
So say you want to use Kyle Kuzma in a package to go out and try to become even better.
You can. You still have some assets on that roster to continue to improve going forward.
Now, I like Kyle Kuzma.
I thought his defense in the playoffs was really good.
I thought he had some good off ball movement.
He improved his three point shooting.
I think he's a valuable asset to the Lakers or if the Lakers want to trade him, whatever
team that gets Kyle Kuzma, I think they're really going to like him.
Players like him are not as common as a lot of people think.
Now, for the Lakers fans that are frustrated that they did lose Danny Green, don't worry.
The Lakers are already looking to try to go out and get Wesley Matthews, great role
player. They play with the Milwaukee Bucks this past season, fills a lot of different
holes, gives you somebody with some defensive versatility that could also defend wing
players. The Lakers are making moves.
Matthews, Ibaka would be phenomenal gets.
