Galata Tower, Taksim Square and Istiklal Street Tour in Istanbul!

It's Saturday afternoon. We had a pretty lazy day around the house. It didn't really do much. It was quite hot outside. So right now we are taking a walk to the subway station and we're going to go check out an area we haven't seen before. Maybe grab a bite to eat and see what we can see. What I'm going to say about Istanbul is their public transportation system is absolutely phenomenal. All right after about 45 minutes of subway rides we've made it to Taksim Square. If you do any research on Istanbul at all I'm sure this is the place you're going to come across. So we're going to show you around here a little bit just to see what we see. Okay I really want to hear from you guys here. How many of you people actually travel and then come to a place like this? So we just pulled off into a little back alley right off of Taksim Square. It is so busy. It's Saturday night. It's a super touristy area. Really really busy. Looks really busy behind us. Super packed. Don't let it fool you. It's crazy busy out there. So we're going to probably take a walk down one of the main streets here called Istiklal Street. See if we can't find some food and make our way to one of Istanbul's most popular landmarks. Okay we're kind of walking down Istiklal Street right now from Taksim towards Galata. And as I'm sure you can see behind me it's pretty crazy. We're going to show you some other footage of what's up in front of us as well. Lots of people out here right now. Alright so we just stopped in this little sweet shop here on Istiklal Street. So one thing to look out for is that this is the main tourist shopping drag. So there's a lot of the big international brands and whatnot here. And just know that everything you buy here is going to be super overpriced. So we just bought these two things. Like a variety of Turkish Delight. This one is like got some kind of almond paste in it and is rolled in almonds. And then this other one is hazelnut and grape the guy said. So we're going to give it a shot. These two together cost us about 40 lira. Back in our neighborhood where we're staying we could get dinner for this price. So hopefully it's good. Let's give it a shot. It is tasty. I really complain about it. Here try some. It's very sweet. Like there's no way I'm going to be able to eat all this in one sitting. No it's actually good. With hazelnut paste and it's tasty right? I'll put that in the bag. It's not 40 lira tasty but it's tasty. We'll put that in the bag and bring it home for when we have a sweet. I'm going to take a little bite of this one too. Yeah I want to try it. That's kind of weird. Fruit roll-up with like nut paste in it. Also kind of tasty. Save it for later. All right let's go see what else we can get into. It's amazing how you turn one corner and how quiet it gets all of a sudden. So we are trying to find our way to Galata Tower right now. Right here is the Galata Tower. It's one of the things we came here to see and it looks super cool. Let's go have a closer look. How cool is that? Pretty cool. So we just popped into this cute little patio. It's called **** just to have a quick refreshment and a snack. So we've got one of the local FS beers, some falafel, some warm hummus and chips. Okay so that right there is one reason why we won't always show you the restaurants that we walk into. Not the best food in the world. Yeah that was average at best but I think that's kind of what you expect when you are a little bit too hungry and you wander into someplace that is directly adjacent to a tourist attraction. You're going to get mediocre food for more than you ought to pay. So me and Angela were just talking here and completely honest we didn't leave the house until 4 30 today because I woke up super early this morning for whatever reason. Super grumpy. Super grumpy? Yeah I tend to be a very grumpy individual and had a little bit of a nap and I woke up still grumpy. Didn't want to leave. Now we're just kind of walking around here just saying to ourselves holy ---- this is awesome. Yeah this is cool. Glad we got out today. Here we go again. I just walked about 15 paces right now with the lens that I have installed on the camera right now. I cannot zoom in. We're hoping that the footage that Angela is trying to do freehand with an iPhone is going to work so you can see what we're seeing right now. It's not. Okay so we're just coming down now to the ferry terminals. Catch a ferry back over to our neighborhood here. I'm going to turn the camera around so you can see what we're seeing right now. Back to Catacoy. It's like a transit boat. So you just use your usual transit card and it'll take you across the Lost Coast Strait and back to where we're staying. Super cool views.
