Confederation Bridge Construction

The construction of the Confederation Bridge began in October 1993 and was completed in May 1997. The bridge was designed by Buckland and Taylor Ltd., a Vancouver-based engineering firm, and constructed by Strait Crossing Development Inc., a private company created for the purpose of building and operating the bridge.

The construction of the bridge was a massive undertaking, involving the use of innovative construction techniques and the coordination of a large workforce and equipment. To build the bridge, workers first had to create access roads and build cofferdams around the piers, allowing for the construction of the bridge's foundation.

To protect the bridge from the harsh weather conditions and ice-covered waters of the Northumberland Strait, workers also installed an ice shield around the piers and used special coatings and paints to protect the bridge from corrosion.

Overall, the construction of the Confederation Bridge was a significant engineering feat, and the result is an impressive and iconic structure that connects Prince Edward Island with mainland Canada.
