Tossing together hanging baskets for my front porch. I'm using a mix of annuals and perennial plants that can go shade to part sun since the area in the garden these will be in gets a mix of both depending on the time of year. In the center I've planted Lime Coleus which has lovely variegation on it's leaves and will make the surrounding the plants pop! For fillers in this arrangement there are some magenta impatiens and some iconia begonia. The iconia begonia are the 'first kiss orange' and compliment the pink, lime green and purple very well. The light orange color on the flowers is soft but still allows some contrast with the other colors. To spill over the sides of the baskets I alternated between Creeping Jenny and purple bacopas. If it looks like there isn't enough sun for the bacopa then I will swap them out with purple lobelia but I wanted to try bacopa first as I have only been able to find two six packs of the purple lobelia and had to use them for other projects. If I can find some more purple lobelia i may swap out the bacopa just because i really like the texture and flow of lobelia and it has been used in other near by planted so it would help tie them together. I wanted to DIY these hanging baskets for as cheap as possible; making hanging baskets can get really pricey when you figure in all of the plants, baskets and materials. I purchased a hanging basket of impatiens and a planter of begonias for very cheap and divided them up to use in these and that worked out great! The iconia begonia is about full grown so i'm not worried about the proportion between it and the impatien. The impatiens grow fast and will catch up in size with begonia very quickly. I love making hanging baskets! Simple diy project to brighten and add color to the home and garden!
