7 Summers is a song by American country music singer Morgan Wallen from his second studio album, Dangerous: The Double Album (2021). The song was officially released as the album's second single on August 14, 2020, and ranked by Time as the seventh-best song of 2020.
Since its release, 7 Summers has grown to be a fan favorite track and is frequently cited as one of Wallen's best songs. Lyrically, 7 Summers is a country love song incorporating a wistfulness and bittersweet quality. Wallen sings of his lost love and reminisces about their romance that took place, as the title suggests, seven summers ago.
And this video is an eight-minute cinematic short film for his song 7 Summers. The film was directed by Justin Clough and released by Wallen on November 10, 2020. Filmed in Nashville, it features Wallen in his acting debut as a small-town high school baseball star. In the film, Wallen's father pressures him to pursue a professional baseball career, and Wallen forces himself to leave behind his high school sweetheart when he doesn't want to. Time passes, and after failing to make the big leagues, Wallen returns to his hometown and discovers that his lost love has a new life without him.
The video was inspired by a period of Wallen's life when he got injured playing baseball and struggled to adjust to community college as well as by Wallen's reminiscence of conversations he had with his high school girlfriend in the past. With Wallen's praised acting and the cinematic nature of the film, the film received positive reviews from viewers.
The film also teased Dangerous: The Double Album with Wallen's statement that the album's release date could be found in the film. Fans then spotted the numbers 1, 8, and 21 in the film, hinting at a release on January 8, 2021, which was the ultimate release date of the album.
