Tropical Garden Makeover & Pond Plant Haul
This week was beautiful! I spent most of time potting up plants and mixing soil. In this video I set up my serenitiy garden. My serenity garden is a small corner on my patio where I pack together tropical plants and houseplants to create a miniature oasis where I can sit and relax surrounded by foliage and flowers in the shade. This tropical garden design is mainly composed of plants I have picked up on clearance over the months from places like Walmart and Lowes. Plants used in this garden design include: Croton, Caladium, Fiddle Leaf Fig, Philodendron, Pothos, Cordyline fruticosa, Curcuma ginger, shell ginger ( alpinia ), Macho fern, Begonias, Impatiens, False Aralia, Norfolk island Pine, Alocasias, Elephant ears, Dracaena 'limelight', Hydrangea, Monstera deliciosa 'thai constellation,' Bromeliads, creeping jenny, Mammy croton, and coleus. I set this area up to look naturalized and therefore somewhat overgrown. I like the full and lush look! Houseplant design typically is more uniform and clean looking, but not in this serenity / meditation garden!
I also discussed planting curcuma gingers, asclepias, sun impatiens dracaena marinata 'tricolor' and a lot more! I also discussed the disappearance of Honey Bees, where'd they go!? I have a lot of perennials I'm going to plant up to help encourage the pollinators to hang around.
I quickly went to a sunflower maze then went home to do a pond plant haul. There are a few waterlilies I have wanted for a long time so I was glad to finally get a hold of them! Plants in plant haul include: Southern Charm Waterlily, Wanvisa Waterlily, Siam Sunset Waterlily, Colocasia 'black coral' and a variaged arrowhead plant ( Sagittaria latifolia 'Fantastic.' I'm going to be using all of these for container water gardens and I potted up one of the waterlilies in the video. Planting waterlilies is very simple. I did mispeak when I said to not use sand or gravel on the surface of the soil with waterlilies. What I meant to say was just leave the crown exposed. I should have elaborated further there. The tropical waterlily, the Southern Charm has already opened up a new leaf and it has only been one day since potting it up! I will be moving it to a larger container but for now this will do. Keeping them shallow is a good idea until they start to show signs of new growth indicating the roots are starting to grow. Just makes it easier in case the tuber pops up and out of the soil since it isn't rooted out and anchored in yet. Oh and the plants in the plant haul / unboxing were all from Pond Plants Online.
