Berlin Marathon race day is here! With the build up to Valencia marathon 2022 about to start, it was time to get a solid long run banked. The entry was carried over from 2020 and we didn't want to waste it, so set a goal of 4-4:10/km pace.. follow along to see all the action!
Here we go guys! It's the Berlin Marathon! It's finally here! I'm so excited to be on the start line
and crossing the start line of another marathon. This is about marathon number 90 for me. We
ended this marathon in 2020 with everything that's happened. It's so cool to be back in Germany,
back on the streets of this beautiful city in Berlin. I can't wait to bring this video to you
Sit back, relax. Let's get the Berlin Marathon done!
Right guys, that is the 5k up. Just going past the 5k mark here. Just over 20 minutes.
Yeah, keeping things nice and relaxed. A bit fast at the moment. Just going past
Yeah, goals for today. Under three hours really. I can't put any bigger goals out there
than that at the moment with the year we've had. A bit of a troubled year but
we're getting better and so that's the goal. Right, let's get some water on board.
Yeah, it's not really going to happen. I've actually cut my portrait.
But never mind. Slippy floor now. Right, let's carry on.
Right guys, we're about 7k in now. All the crowds are building. Great atmosphere out here.
I think it reminds me of the last time I finished this race in 2008. There was a world record.
Haile Gebrselassie at the time. It was like such an honour to share the road
when a world record is broken. What are we going to see on today? The great man here.
The GOAT. The best of all time. Great of all time. Kipchoge is out, up ahead,
miles away at the moment. Will he break a world record?
By the time you're watching this you'll know but I don't know. Super exciting and yeah,
let me know. Do you think Kipchoge is the greatest of all time? The greatest runner of all time?
Let us know down in the comments.
Coming up to the 10k and yeah, struggling to get water down at the moment.
It's got these cups and they're so brittle. But anyway, time to get a gel down. Just taking
the Morton fueling alley. 38 minutes in. So yeah, fuel strategy,
the gel about every year. 30 to 40 minutes.
And just like that, the quarter marathon is up. A bit of a gnaw distance today.
Yeah, Kipchoge for the day. I've got the Ben Park Matt Black hat on,
New Source England. It'll be out on the website now. I've gone for the Alpha Phi 2s,
some short shorts. I've got the Morton gel. I'm still trying to get rid of this packet.
My pink gloves on from Monhill. Garmin Epic on the wrist and some stance socks. I think that's
everything. Getting it done today. We just had some Morton and I'm going to shoot some water
for breakfast and some light croissants with it. Very nice. Right, let's crack on.
Three quarters of the race still to go.
Right guys, we're at 18k in now. Still rolling okay. Did you run the Berlin Marathon? Let us
know. Let us know what you thought of it out there. Which awesome marathon are you doing?
Would be great to catch up. Yeah, the atmosphere out here, good to go through a little bit of
quiet perhaps now, but the road's still pretty busy. Let's look at our paces. Yeah, about 404k
pace at the moment. Looking forward to halfway and then it just gets nearer and nearer. Come on.
Right guys, there we go. That's through halfway. Every step now is a step closer to home. That
means we've got less to go than we've gone already, is what I'm trying to say. Right, about 126 and a half
there for halfway. Yeah, still feeling good. Enjoying it. Good to be back
racing again. Right, let's get the second half of the Berlin Marathon done.
Right guys, that's 28k down, 14k to go, which is my standard loop at home, what I call my tower bridge loop.
Yeah, do you guys do that when you get to maybe like parkrun to go? Like 5k to go? Just you
visualize your regular loop at home and then just think to yourself, just starting that out,
how easy it normally is. Right, I'm going to get, just try and get this water down. It really do hurt me.
Right guys, that's 32k done. Svein, Dreyse, Kilometre, 10k to go. The last 10k
of any marathon is always so tough. No matter how easy you might be taking it. My legs are hurting.
Oh, it's getting tough. But the crowd, they're out here cheering us on. Thank you Berlin. Thank you Germany.
What a warm welcome. It's great, but it's time to dig deep. It's getting hard. Marathons are tough. Come on.
Here comes Sarah. Should we give her a kiss? Yeah. Oh, that's my girlfriend by the way.
Out here supporting. Chief, cheerleader, ultra runner. Amazing girl.
That makes everything you see possible. Lovely looks.
5k to go. Parkrun to go. Thank you all the volunteers out here. Make it happen. Thank you all the
I'm dying here. We're having fun. Come on. Hit that like button. 5k to go.
Here we go guys. Through the Brandenburg Gate. Finally. Come on. The beautiful symbol of peace
bringing everybody together for this most amazing marathon. Just had an absolute blast today.
So happy to be getting round. Strong. Getting round. Just getting to the finish. Getting around
without falling over. Celebrating. Running. Being back with 45,000 of you guys as well.
Amazing. Yes. Yes. Yes. It may not be a great time for me. Thank you. But boy, that means a lot.
That means so, so much. Well done. Congratulations. Oh, that means so much. Back crossing a finish
line of a marathon in a good time. And now we've got a great base to build on going forward.
It's a baseline to build from. And I cannot wait to see how fast we can go in Valencia.
I'm going to put together a great series. Can't wait to show you the way there and see what we
can do. That's an hour quicker. An hour and three minutes quicker than the last time I finished this
race. And that makes me so, so proud. Keep believing guys. Keep on getting it done. I love you lots.
Let's go and find Sarah and get me a beer. Come on.
Right guys. So there we go. Another marathon done. I don't even know what marathon that is. I don't
care. I'm just so happy. The first marathon we've done for a few years and got it done. Now just
taking all the atmosphere. And yeah, our flight back to London leaves in about four hours. So
we've got to shoot to the airport. Just want to say a big congratulations to my friend Elliot,
who set a new PB today. Congratulations to him. Just absolutely insane. What, Kipchoge? Kipchoge.
New world record. 2-0-1-0-9, I think it was. Yeah. Have you got some footage, Sarah? Yeah,
I did. We'll put that up on the screen now. Yeah. Congratulations to everybody else out there.
Whether you got a PB or not, just well done. Marathons are super tough, but easily the toughest
distance I think you can ever run. Yeah. Thank you to the organizers, the supporters, the volunteers
for making that all happen. I'm just so pumped up now for Valencia. I'm going to go out and give
this our all and see what with, I don't know what it is, 10, 12 weeks of solid training,
what we can do and get that back much down near a 230. Can't wait for that. Right guys,
stay tuned for that. It's coming up soon. We need to get on with it, start training next week.
Thank you for the support, the hats, the training plans and everything we need. Thank you very much.
We need to head to the airport. Lots of love guys. We'll see you in the next one.
Oh sorry, did I even say what time I ran? I don't even think I put my time. 2.53.59.
