Hi there, thanks for tuning in. In this video I'm going to take you to Koh Lar,
the Koh Lam, or Coral Island, depends who you ask. It started off as a simple day trip to the beach,
ended up becoming way more than I expected. I found a great deal on a bungalow, I got to see
some amazing beaches, I got to watch some epic sunsets, and I got to discover an abandoned
lookout tower. So stick around and see what happens. Well good morning. So I woke up this
morning, I was having my coffee and breakfast out on the balcony, and it was such a beautiful day,
I decided today was going to be a beach day. Yesterday was a bit of a work day, I did some
editing, some travel research and planning, but today is a beach day, so let's go to the beach.
All right, so I just decided, spur of the moment, which beach I was going to go to.
So many to choose from, but today I'm going to take the ferry and I'm going to go over to Koh
Larn and check out a couple beaches there. Why not? Beautiful day, let's go to Koh Larn.
Well we made it to the pier, let's go see if we can get ourselves a ticket. I think there's a 12 o'clock
ferry to Koh Larn, hopefully we can be on it. The ferry ride takes about 45 minutes and it leaves
every hour or so from 7 a.m to 6 p.m. There are plenty of options if you wanted to grab a speed
boat for about 150 to 200 baht, but that's a little bit more bumpy ride. You get there faster,
but not great if you want to take some videos. I was in no rush, so for 30 baht I'll take the ferry.
Koh Larn is about seven and a half kilometers off the coast of Pattaya. It's just over four
kilometers from top to bottom and covers an area of 5.6 square kilometers. I'd heard it had some
really nice beaches, so my plan was to make my way over there for the day, find a nice beach, take
some videos for the afternoon and catch the last ferry back later that day. All right, well we've
made it to Koh Larn, so I'm just gonna look around this little village here and see what happens.
The pier area is a real busy place and everyone pressuring you to rent a motorbike, which
if I was staying the night I would probably do that. I thought perhaps renting a bike might be
a good idea. I could see more of the island, so as I started wandering through these narrow
alleyways, I kept my eyes open for any bungalows that had some vacancies. And wouldn't you know it,
something popped up. Okay, so I was just walking around the town checking out this charming little
town, all the back alleys and streets, and then I come across this place here that said vacant.
So I thought, hmm, let's just go ask. And sure enough, for 900 baht, I got this nice little
bungalow for the night. Have a look. Tiny one-room little place,
TV, air conditioning, a little fridge, wooden floor, really soft bed,
and a bathroom. Toilet, sink, shower, exactly what a guy needs. The best thing about this place,
for 900 baht, it comes with a free motorcycle to tour the island. How can you go wrong with that?
Free motorbike. Let's go for a bike ride. Well, now that I had some wheels, I decided to go and
see as many beaches as I could. So to start, I headed to the southern tip of the island to see
what I could find. Well, I just parked the bike and I found us a little beach. Looks like a cool
little place. Not sure what the name of it is, but it looks like a great place to chill out,
have a swim, and perhaps grab a bite to eat. Let's go have a look. What a great idea. Beautiful day
for a beach. Can't beat this. Now that was a beautiful beach, and I could have spent the
whole afternoon there, but I didn't find anything that was appetizing in terms of food, so I decided
to move on to the next beach. So I jumped back on my bike, I headed north, drove up through the
little village, and then I headed west across to the other side of the island to see Taweng Beach.
Just before getting to the beach, there was a lookout area. I thought I would stop and have a
look at Taweng Beach from above. You can also catch a ferry back to Pattaya from here, so this
was a very popular place, and it looked quite busy. But I thought I'd better get down and have
a closer look. This little beach village was quite touristy, with lots of vendors, street food stalls,
and rental shops. The beach was completely full of umbrellas and lounge chairs, and there was no room
to lay on the beach at all. I decided to head back up the other way, and hopefully find something to
eat. Trying not to run anybody over as I went, I ended up driving all the way past the beach,
and found a little road heading towards another beach. I took this little seawall around some
fishermen and some construction, and I got to another little beach
called Taweng Lang Beach, and this is the place where I found some lunch. Taweng Lang was much
quieter. The only access was the little road I drove over on, so not many people were here.
I hung out here for a bit after lunch as a little thundershower rolled through,
and then when it cleared up, I decided to make my way to Seme Beach, and hopefully catch a nice
sunset. The great thing about Koh Larn is that you don't need to rent a motorbike to see all these
places. There are songtoos, or bat buses, or motorcycle taxis available everywhere to take
you any place on the island. Well, quite an interesting day for me today. I woke up, I had
the idea I was going to go to a beach, and then I jumped on a ferry. I came to an island,
ended up getting a hotel and staying the night, and now here I am watching a beautiful sunset
on Seme Beach in Koh Larn. Amazing what happens when you just see what happens.
Some of my most memorable experiences have been when I just surrender to the forces of the
universe. Just walk and let the world pull me along. Go with the flow, you know. And sometimes
you're rewarded when the sky lights up with magical colours, and days like these you don't forget.
But we do not remember days, we remember moments. On my ride back to my bungalow, I stopped along
a local market where people were selling fresh seafood, and you could pick whatever you like and
take it to a man out in the back, and he would grill it up for you to perfection. And then you
could sit and look out over the water, looking back towards Pattaya, and enjoy your meal. After the
market, I just head back to my bungalow and had an early night, because I was planning on getting
up early to head to the north of the island to see Tayai Beach. Well good morning from beautiful Koh Larn.
It's day two here. I had a wonderful sleep in my bungalow last night. Got up, the sun was shining.
No better way to start your day than a swim in the ocean. So I think we'll do a little bit more
exploring today, and we'll catch the ferry and we'll head back home to Pattaya this afternoon.
Thanks for coming along.
While we're finding ourselves a viewpoint, I've seen a sign that says viewpoint, let's
take these stairs, see where it goes. Looks like nobody's been here for a while. Let's go check it
out. Oh my gosh, it was a little bit more in depth than I planned. Hope it's worth it. I'm not gonna
lie to you, this lookout spot has seen better days. Doesn't look like it's been maintained too well,
but of course the view is spectacular. Well that's it for this video folks. I hope you liked Koh Larn.
I'm gonna head back down to the town, catch myself a ferry, and head on back home to Pattaya.
