Well, good morning. Another beautiful Canadian autumn morning. The sun is
shining. It was quite cold last night. It was probably below freezing, but with less
than two weeks to go before I'm in Thailand, I don't mind it one bit. Today
we're gonna go on an adventure. We're gonna hike up to the top of a mountain
to a cabin with a beautiful view over the valley below. Come join me as we
explore Lackett Lookout. Hey there. If you're new here, my name is Floyd and I'd
like to invite you to join me as I venture across this planet searching for
all its natural beauty so I can share it with you. So make sure you subscribe and
hit the notification bell so you won't miss my next video. Just a short drive
from Cranbourn, Lackett Lookout is a favourite hike for people in the area
and on a clear day you can see the tiny white cabin atop the mountain from miles
away. And there she is, the little speck up on the hill we're gonna climb up to
Lackett Lookout. To get there, you're gonna head north from Cranbourn towards
Fort Steele, then turn off the highway onto the Wardner Fort Steele Road and
then shortly after turn on to the Wild Horse Forest Service Road. The Wild Horse
area has a rich history and was once home to Fisherville, a city created by
the Gold Rush and in the summer of 1865, Fisherville was the largest city north
of San Francisco and west of Chicago. The Wild Horse Forest Service Road is in
pretty good shape, however, when you turn off onto the Lackett Lookout access road
you're gonna want a high clearance vehicle with good tires. Alright, here we
are at the trailhead. We're just gonna climb this mountain here behind us. It
should take us less than an hour. I got my good buddies Al and Eric here with me and
we're gonna be on our way and I'll take a few shots as we're climbing up there
and hopefully we'll get a beautiful view once we get to the top. I'll see you
there. Another popular area in this valley is the Bear Lake hike. You can
check my YouTube video on Bear Lake if you'd like to see more on that. Well,
we're about halfway up. It's been a pretty great hike so far. We started off at like
zero degrees and then about 15 minutes later it feels like it's about plus 25
right now. We're sweating, but what a great day for a hike. The colors are
amazing. I hope you're enjoying the view. See you at the top. Wow, what a view, eh?
Well, we just about made it to the top. I'm sure you can see the cabin top just
behind me there. It's a few more hundred meters. I'm just gonna catch my breath and we'll
make the top together. Let's go. Of course, they've got facilities here near the top.
Let's just stroll up to the top together. This has been an unprecedented day. The
weather, remarkable. We've never had this warm of weather in October. Man, we're
sweating and I've had colder days in July, but nobody's complaining. This is
absolutely fantastic. I'm sure that it's plus 20 degrees up top here today, but
with a little bit of breeze and the altitude, this is awesome. Here we come up
to the top. Half moon's shining up in the sky still. What a great day. And we've
made it. Lacket Lookout. What a spot.
Two pieces. Yeah, I need it. What's your pandemonium? Life is so easy.
Whoa. Let me two pieces. Yeah, I need it. What's your pandemonium?
Freedom. Pieces. Yeah, I need it. What's your pandemonium? Life is so easy.
Whoa. Let me two pieces. Yeah, I need it. What's your pandemonium? Well, this is it.
Lacket Lookout. And boy, what a view do we got up here, eh? Beautiful day. A little
bit of smoke in the sky, but that adds a little mystere. Why don't we go inside
the cabin and have a look. Inside the cabin, I got a little cot, a little desk
here with a bunch of notebooks where people have signed their name every time
they climb up here. Got nice views down below. They do have covers on the window
for the winter. You can actually come up here in the wintertime, bring a
sleeping bag, got a little wood stove in the corner there, where you can spend the
night up here on top of a mountain. What a great place. Here it is, the cabin
elevation. 2,354 meters or 7,720 feet above sea level.
Here's a little picture somebody painted of what it looks like in the winter.
Anyways, that's it. We're gonna make our way back down. It's been a great day so
far. Here again, shirt off. It's almost the end of October. I'm getting a sunburn
today. No complaints here. Alright, let's go. The hike up to the top took us a
little over an hour due to the frequent stops to admire the scenery and to take
some photos. The hike down took us about half that time. The well-marked trail was
in great condition and I recommend this hike for people of all ages.
Leave me a note in the comments section below if you've hiked up to Lacket
Lookout. And while you're down there, don't forget to click the like button
and share this video with all your friends. Well, here we are back at the
truck. We made it all the way down. What a great day. Back down here in the shade by
the truck, it's almost zero degrees again. Just 15 minutes up the hill, you're
getting sunburned. That's the way it is here in autumn in the Kootenays. Anyways, I'm
gonna end this video here. Thanks for watching. I hope you enjoyed this. Stick
around for my next video because I have one more big event planned before I head
to Thailand. And remember, wherever you are and wherever you go, go with the flow.
