There is a lot more to Karate lessons than just learning how to punch and kick. Classes offer a wide variety of exercises.
What kind of karate exercises are out there?
It's all depends, when you come to karate classes you could do some calisthenics which could be jumping jacks, push ups, sit ups, squats. Another exercise could be kicking the pad and you could also kick in the air. You could also do punches in the air or punches on the pad. You could do punches with a partner, hitting them in the stomach lightly. Or even the kicks concentrating on where you want to throw the kick.
In American Kenpo we do what is called a line drill where you learn a bunch of self defense techniques where you practice with your partner and you go back and forth with your partner and then the whole class makes a line and everyone attacks them and you get to do the self defense drill on a person.
If you are doing Jiu Jitsu or grappling you may work on take downs with a partner. You may practice them in the air. Submissions on a partner, submissions in the air.
"This foot bring it all the way around to this side, and lay back hold it nice and tight. Awesome job give her a hand!"
So there is a whole bunch of different exercises you can do so when you come to class it's not just "ok we come to class and everything is in the air".
There's a whole bunch of different exercises you can do, you can do it on a partner, you can do it on a dummy or a kicking bag or on a punching bag. So there's always a variation of exercises.
The best way to find out what exercises are in class is to go to our website and find out the class times.
