We are up early this morning and running late as usual.
We're going fishing sightseeing. It's a combo tour.
Taking a trip over to Kenai Fords National Park for some photos,
maybe some whales, maybe some orcas if we're lucky.
And while we're out, we're going to switch over to another area,
drop a line in the water, try to catch some silvers,
and maybe some small halibut.
We have a big day planned.
Fingers crossed we get something good.
Good afternoon.
Our adventures in Seward continue,
and we have a full crew of travelers and RVers on board with us.
There's our hosts Rebecca and Captain Ben,
our friends Lynn and Jeanette,
and my family's still hanging with us.
So there's mom, my sister, and my aunt.
We're setting out on what sounds like a fairly impossible mission for one day.
Catch fish, see glaciers, and find whales.
We're calling this the Alaska Trifecta
because where else could you expect to do all of this in one day?
Our first stop is near Bear Glacier to see if we can catch any action.
And obviously it's a popular spot to drop a line.
He's reeled in three since we've been here.
There's a big jelly.
Oh yeah.
Hello jelly.
Nikki's got one too.
It's a pink.
Is that bad?
Well there's better eating ones.
Some people like pinks.
Alaskans are a little spoiled when it comes to the different species of salmon
and definitely have their favorites.
As you may have gathered, pinks are not one of them.
So much action going on.
This is so much fun.
Let's leave them out because I gotta get the boat moved.
Lauren's got one too.
Oh he's getting tired now.
Turns out leaving those pink salmon was a serendipitous move
because otherwise we may have missed this guy.
Oh I hope somebody got that.
Sadly our cameras don't do this experience justice.
The salty air, the bobbing of the boat, cool breeze,
and the crash of his body slamming into the water.
It all makes for an experience best enjoyed in person.
Talk about a performance.
This show goes on for a solid half hour.
There it is.
Just around the corner is Seal Rock or Seagull Rock.
I don't know which to call it because it's covered in boat.
The seals, unlike our whale friend, have zero interest in entertaining us.
Put a fish between your teeth.
Big bait, big fish.
I want some biggins.
In the now immortal words of Eric, this does not suck.
This does not suck.
It's still playing with it.
Let's give it half a revolution.
Okay now, wait, wait, wait.
Wait till that rod is actually buckled over.
Patience is not my virtue.
It tests my patience so much.
I need a treadmill here.
I need something to do while I wait.
I had one for like a second, but then he went away.
It was a sad moment.
Nope.
Nope, you didn't get the commitment.
He didn't like it, no.
Commitment phobe.
And any fish over about 50 pounds is a female.
Really?
I know, it's like it jinxes it.
See?
It's happening everywhere.
They got halibut over here.
They got a silver over here.
We got Nikki reeling in something.
Follow your fish, Lauren.
Was that Lauren's?
God, Lauren's is everywhere.
Mary's got another one.
Feels like an eternity.
Okay, she's done.
She caught her two.
I think I might have one.
Are you fishing?
No.
I think I lost them.
At least I didn't go too fast that time.
I just want to catch one.
What you reeling up, Lauren?
Um, a fish?
We got a fish.
A heavy fish?
Yeah.
Get him up there.
Woo-hoo!
Double halibut.
That's a double rainbow.
What does it mean?
I think I lost...
I think we both...
Are we hooked the same one?
There's still a fish on here.
Even after all that tangled lines and everything else.
Matter, I just really need to work out.
I think I lost...
I got a big one.
Take it out of the rod holder.
No, don't pull it out of the water.
It's on the boat.
So that is how you...
That is...
I thought I did a good job.
I'm recording you.
Oh.
You just caught a fish.
I just caught a fish.
Give us a lot of work.
So much excitement.
So much work.
I know!
My limit.
Uno.
Two.
You need more uno?
Two?
Yeah, uno.
Getting delirious.
This would be dose.
My reeling arm is getting in my brain.
Do you have fish?
I'm not going home a loser.
I thought I was putting out bad fish vibes.
You've got one.
I think I got one.
Oh, it's almost on deck.
This is the x-factor pole.
We put a huge piece of fish in just to see what happens.
Watch, it's going to be a guffy or something.
This is not graceful in any way.
I got color.
That's your final one.
Number two.
Oh, and he's a little guy on the x-factor.
That's why it's the x-factor.
He was going for the big one.
Okay, I think we're done.
Let's go see some glaciers.
Totally.
Captain, take us to some glaciers, Captain.
We're going for a tri-specter.
And Lynn, how's the vegan over here doing?
Yeah, I think I'm done eating fish.
I'm happy for everybody though, and it is quite tasty.
This is too close for control.
It was awesome.
It was so much fun.
And everybody got one.
Poor Rebecca, who is having to do all the dirty work while we do all the fun.
Way to create.
And that's our awesome Captain Ben, who's been keeping us in check.
Here's Jeanette, just holding down the fort.
It's a fish that got away.
Lauren, do you have a fish on, or are you just reeling?
No, just reeling.
Just for fun.
Somebody told me to do it.
Beautiful day.
We're limited out.
Can't ask for much more.
Except for maybe a few less swells.
That would be good.
I can't wait to get the stink off my hand though.
I like it.
Sushi.
I know you're trying to catch me.
It's what real friends do.
All the fish are biting at once.
You almost need two captains just to help reel in all the fish.
It's like shooting fish in a barrel out here in Alaska.
Yeah.
How many years old?
I don't know.
Look at the rings.
I think we can do some Jurassic Park stuff with this.
There's some old historic dirt in there.
The scenery is stunning.
We're all having a grand old time.
And then Captain Ben gets a, well, a crazy idea.
Here goes nothing.
Wait, let me get re...
Remember how to use this thing.
Just hand.
Is that exciting?
It's crazy.
How do you feel about the first drone flight over water?
Me too.
I'm not liking it all that much.
Yeah, Rebecca wasn't really on board with Ben flying the drone out here.
Mickey's making it worse.
Oh, this is not good.
Home.
Are you bringing up anchor?
It just went down.
And that was the last time we saw the drone.
I learned a valuable lesson today.
We nailed the Alaska trifecta.
Had a fantastic day out on the water.
And it's going to be a great night for all.
Well, perhaps not for our captain.
Sorry, Ben.
