DOLLAR TREE VALENTINE FAKE TREATS DECOR DIY - How To Make Faux Cupcakes
Hey it's Cassie. Welcome to my channel. I am so excited to share these sweet little
baked cupcakes with you today. And the cupcake wrapper is a free printable that you can get on
my website. I'll leave the link in the description for you. Print that out and let's go get crafty.
If you want to use these cupcake wrappers that I'm using today you can get the free printable
on my website and I'll have that link below for you. So the first thing you need to do is cut out
your little cupcake wrappers. It's easiest if you have an exacto knife or some kind of knife that
you can use to cut the little slit right there. Okay and then we'll just assemble these. And I
like to add just a little dot of hot glue on the inside just to make sure that it all holds together
and stays. Since these are going to be for display for the long term. Okay so I've got my
cupcake wrappers all ready. Now the next thing I want to do is paint my styrofoam balls. These
are going to go in here just like the cupcake. So for mine I'm going to do red with some brown
mixed in to make it look like red velvet cake. You can do any color that you like. Pink would be
really cute too. So now we're only going to see about half of this styrofoam ball so I'm just
going to paint half of it. Maybe a little further than that but right around half. And a very very
small amount of this is going to be showing so don't worry too much about being perfect.
The other color I'm going to use is cameo pink. So this one will look like a strawberry cupcake.
So there are my three painted cupcakes. So the next thing I'm going to do, well I'm going to
let these dry and then the next thing I'm going to do is glue directly into the cupcake wrapper.
Let's see, I forgot to say these are 2.4 inch or 60 millimeter styrofoam balls. I got those at
Dollar Tree. They come three in a pack so that's a really good deal. Okay so now we have all our
little cupcakes and it's time to decorate. So to make your whipped cream you're going to need
some lightweight spackling and this is the one from the Dollar Tree.
So I think we'll start with some white.
And this is a container I got at Dollar Tree that I just used to mix up my
spackling and then I could just save the rest of it in there. So this is my first time using
the Dollar Tree one. So I'm going to see how the consistency is on this. The one I usually use I
got at Walmart. This is the one I usually use, DAP Fast and Final. And I like the consistency
of that one. So this one seems like it's going to be a little bit drier, like more crackly.
So we'll see. So I'm going to put a little bit of white paint in here just to
brighten it up because I don't know if you can see but it looks a little bit gray out of the
container. So we don't want gray frosting on our cupcakes. Or I don't anyway. I don't know about
you. And then just mix it up really good. And the paint made it a little wetter texture. So
I think it's going to be perfect now. Now I reuse my piping bags. Like I put it in one of these
containers and I fold it up like this so that the tip is covered and it lasts a really long time.
So that's just a little tip so you don't waste or have to keep, like I use this kind of often,
so I don't want to have to keep using a new bag every time. That gets expensive.
And I also have some reusable ones so I use those too but these are reusable too as far as I can
tell. So I'm just going to put my bag over the cup here. It's a little messier because I'm reusing
this but if you had a new bag it would not be this messy. Okay then we're just going to put
and I'm going to get a little bit out of here because I've had this sitting the end. The
little part on the tip tends to get a little bit dry so I don't want to use that. This one
is an open star tip. I don't know if you can see that there but so I'll show you the design that
this one makes and then we'll do some different ones as well. So I normally start at the edge so
start wherever you want the cupcake to show. I don't want too much of my cupcake showing
but I do want a little bit showing and then I'm just going to swirl all the way around
until I get to the top. So there's that one and then for this one I think I'm going to cover it
in glitter. So I have this cute pink glitter that I grabbed at Dollar Tree so I just want to make
this one like super sparkly. Okay then I should have brought a piece of paper to knock this
glitter off onto but I didn't. Okay so just get all the extra glitter off and then I want to put
I got this little candy at Hobby Lobby at Christmas time. It's a little ornament
so the stick I noticed just comes right out and then I'm going to cut the little
string off so it'll be like a cute little candy on top. So I'm going to leave that one just like
that because I think with the glitter and that that's plenty of decorations for this one
but you can go crazy and put whatever you want on these. So that's how that one looks.
Okay so let's try a different piping tip and I have some let's see we'll use pink for this one.
I have this piping bag that I have some pink in but I'm going to need to mix up some more
so we'll go ahead and do that. Be sure to always keep your spackle lid on when you're
doing something else when you're not using it so that it doesn't dry up on you.
I have to say the spackle from Dollar Tree definitely has a smell to it. The other one
that I have does not smell like that. Okay so we're going to add a little bit of pink
paint in here and stir this all around. Start with a small amount of paint and you can always
add to it but you know if you put too much in then it turns out way too bright. Okay this color
came out really adorable and I don't think I showed you I used pink parfait from Apple Barrel.
You can get that at Walmart and I just put a little bit in here. Okay so we're going to fill
this one. Now the tip that I'm going to use for this one is actually a little bit smaller. It's
a mini size tip or smaller size tip and it's a closed star. I'll show you in just a second
what it looks like. I got this set on Amazon and I really like it. It had a bunch of tips in it.
I actually got two different sets and they come with reusable bags so that's really awesome. Okay
so this is the closed star tip so the ends are just like bent in a little bit and that
makes a different design than the one that I used before. A little bit. Okay so I'm going to use my
other red velvet cupcake and so I was watching some cupcake decorating videos a while back
like real cupcake decorating videos because this is not my strong suit here and the lady
was showing how you can just get a different pattern just by holding the tip for longer in
one spot. So instead of going around really fast if you go slower you get more of like a ruffly
look and you can also do something like this. So there's that one.
I don't think I stirred my spackle well enough. It's a little bit streaky but
well. Okay so for this one I'm going to use this is a piece of vase filler that I got from Dollar
Tree. So I'm just going to put this on like a cherry on top. Oh my gosh that's so cute!
And then I got some sprinkles that I made that are red and white so I'm going to put some of
those on. I made these out of clay. You can buy them online too and if you don't want to do either
one of those things on the next one I'll show you a different alternative. So I'm just going to
sprinkle these on. You have to press them down a little bit but not too much or you'll mess up your
frosting. Look at that one! Oh my gosh I love it. Okay so now we'll move on to the last one.
So for the last one I'm going to use this tip. It's also a closed star but it looks a little bit
different than the other one that I have. Like the little metal pieces aren't as long so I want
to see how this one comes out. So you just put your tip inside your bag. Okay and then we have our pink
cupcake. So make sure you have all your your spackle pressed down into your tip. I feel like
this one's looking pretty much the same as the other one but it might also be my technique.
So for this one I was telling you I have an alternative to the sprinkles that I made.
These are glass beads that I found at Dollar Tree in the craft section and I thought oh my gosh
these would be perfect sprinkles because there's these long ones that look like the long sprinkles
and then they have all these different beads. So I thought I'll use those but for the topper
I have this pick that I got at Dollar Tree. So I'm just going to take the stick off of it
which comes right out and then I'm going to stick that right on the top. Oh that looks adorable.
And then I'm going to put some of these pink beads on here and I imagine they're going to roll
everywhere. Oh my gosh those are so cute. See you don't have to spend a ton of money to make cute
things. This container that these are in is not ideal. When I opened it some of the colors started
mixing up together so I'll definitely be putting those in a different container.
And I might put a few of these too. Oh my gosh these are stinking cute. These turned out cuter
than I expected. These little beads like I thought it was going to be so obvious that they're beads
but actually they really look like sprinkles. Look at that. Oh my gosh it is so adorable.
Alright so let me show you all of them. So this is the one that was with the large piping tip,
large open star, and then these two were the smaller sized closed star. So you can see it
looks a little bit roughly on these a little bit different than that other one. So cute.
