Hi my name is Fred Mergen with Mergen Mixed Martial arts and I'm going to show you the proper MMA fighting stance.
The proper MMA fighting stances all differs from different schools, the one I like using at my school is having your right foot or left foot back front toes facing your opponent and back toes on a 45 degrees with your hands up.
Some other instructors or coaches have different stances it all depends on their fighting style. So I can't tell you what the proper fighting MMA stance is because it varies there are a whole bunch of them but the one we use here at my school is front toes forward, back feet at 45 degrees and hands up and knees bent. Ready for action.
What that'll do is it'll stop from any leg kick you can check the leg kicks still and still throw kicks with both legs and punches with both hands.
MMA stance is different than traditional Karate because in MMA you've got a lot of guys who are wrestlers and Jiu Jitsu practitioners so if they go for a take down you want to have a low stance and be able to stop it.
Also in traditional Karate we don't really worry about people kicking you in the legs or on the inside of the legs so that's why the front leg is forward, you can kinda check those kicks if you need to.
If you have any comments or questions please leave them below and if you want to show us how you do your stance that'd be great too.
