The Taj Mahal is located on the right bank of the Yamuna River in the vast Mughal garden, which covers an area of nearly 17 hectares.

The Taj Mahal is one of the world's wonders in India, recognized by Unesco in 1983. It is an ivory-white marble mausoleum. Built by the Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan, in 1632 and completed in 1643, the mausoleum is the tomb of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It also houses the tomb of Shah Jahan himself. The Taj Mahal is considered the most significant architectural achievement in all Indo-Islamic architecture.

Watch the video to see what's on the inside of this glorious monument.

The arch of the gate and the bars are clad in white marble. The Taj Mahal is a perfectly balanced plan. Inside there are actual tombs located in the catacombs below. The sizable two-story dome room is a perfect octagon. The center of the catacombs is where the body of Mumtaz Mahal is buried. Next to her is that of King Shah Jahan, placed 30 years later. The octagonal tomb room is in the center.
