3-0 defeat against Rennes in midweek plunged Strasbourg deeper into Ligue 1 Uber Eats'
relegation battle, with four points now separating them from safety. You never quite know what you're
going to get from Montpellier on the road, highlighted by two away league wins since the
restart, either side of a hefty 6-1 defeat at Nice. Strasbourg have just 15 points after 21 Ligue 1
games this season. Each team with that total have been 17th or below come the campaign's end,
a particularly bad season for that to be true. And yet it was a rapid fire start as the meno
came to life. Abid Diallo taking just 13 seconds to score the second fastest goal of the season
and the first rassing player to net in the very first minute since Gerard Soler in 1984.
Worth the wait. Diallo was certainly a man on a mission, the Easterners desperate for a first
meno success of the league campaign with the Senegalese striker just off target. All the good
seemed to leave though with a crunching tackle. Jean-Elude Aoulou seeing a straight red card.
Despite the protestations, off he'd go. Romain Pitot may have not been there the whole time,
but Montpellier had lost 13 of their 21 league games this campaign, their highest tally at any
stage. And it wasn't looking much better when Diallo struck again just before halftime,
playing the lone role for the 10-man home side to perfection. Matt Sells among plenty. Relieved
Alexander Djukou though with the challenge and then the vision, but still a horror show at the
back. But you've got to be there to take advantage. Five goals in his last eight,
Diallo doing his best to keep rassing up. Strasbourg winless in their last 11 league home
games and had never gone longer without a victory on home soil in the top flight. It was looking
good for Mathieu Le Scorné, who promoted to the top job after the departure of Julien Stéphane.
But clearly not wanting the ball, Strasbourg putting the emphasis on Montpellier and Wabi
Khazri and co. Lemeno alive like it hasn't been all season. But then the fear crept in.
Khazri's beautiful backheel and the cross finding Elie Wailly with the offside flag
rightly coming to Strasbourg's rescue. Mathieu Le Scorné desperate for the final whistle.
What an occasion and roar for victory. First home success earned by Diallo
despite the first half sending off. Could it be lift off for rassing?
