First thing in the morning. Pace of 18 minute mile. 18 minute. It's New Year's Eve and it's a big deal
because it's the the end of one year and the beginning of another. We felt like it
needed an in the moment video and I know that these in the moment videos can get
a little bit confusing and that's totally understandable because
technically we should be in Portobello because that's where our last video left
you and we'll pick back up there in our next video. But this is such like a thing
and we didn't do anything for Christmas so we really felt like we wanted to do
something for New Year's and we wanted to share it with you because well you're
a big part of our year. Last year. The year coming forward. And that's what
makes this so great. It's the community. The fact that we can connect on like so
many levels through social media, YouTube, our website, to have you along with us
for the adventure is, well, let's start this New Year off right with a big thank
you. Thank you for being a part of our adventure. It sounds totally cliche but we
literally couldn't do it without you. Thanks.
This is the La Playa de Anchorage. Well, the marina and we're at the Anchorage
which is just outside. You can probably see Curiosity over there. I can see her. Yeah, you're not
pointing near her but yeah. It is a bit of a rolly Anchorage because your boat's coming and
going all the time so I can't say it's the most comfortable but it is the most
convenient. There really are only two Anchorages for the city. One on this side,
one just across the street here. This one has the best dock for tying up dinghy
and coming into town, grabbing a bus, taxi, whatever the case may be, so that we can be close to the city.
The other side is nice. It's calmer on most days but it has a super crappy dock
that's really sketchy to leave the dinghy in. So, this is really...
That one's your size.
This little strip of land is called the Amador Causeway and I read online that
it's like the leftovers, the scraps from the stuff they dug out from the Panama
Canal and now it's like this local touristy sort of escape. Yeah, it's a hangout. You can rent bicycles, ride around, run. It's just...
Get ice cream. Get ice cream, yeah. It's not a bad place to drop the dinghy or to land the dinghy, drop the
hook and to have access to all this. And we can tap. Yeah, but the real reason we're here is because the city is right there.
That's why we're here. Barely beat the storm. We'll get in before it actually starts.
The plan for today is that there is no plan. We're going to meet up with some fellow sailors in the city and see what kind of trouble we can cause.
Party time in the city! Oh, the rain's actually here. Crap.
What do you think? Not too shabby, right? She cleans up nice. Rain's over. Let's find a party.
Buenas noches.
Me llamo Nikki.
Nikki?
Nikki.
Yo Manuel.
Manuel. Mucho gusto.
Manuel Dulce Sueño.
Dulce Sueño, si.
Si.
Welcome to Casco Viejo.
It's kind of the old part of the city.
Maybe ten years ago this used to be super rough, kind of considered the ghetto.
And now, it's this really cute, kind of hip, cool area to be in.
And safe.
And safe. Let's go find our friends.
I do like the little city squares. They're very cute.
Whoa, that's a lot of lights up there. Holy crap.
So, we're going to this place right here. It's got a lot of lights. Looks like a party.
Classic Casco.
On the roof. Nice.
So, basically, we got kicked out of that place because they have a private event.
Obviously, it's New Year's Eve, so they're very busy.
We didn't get a drink.
What happens if you don't have reservations?
Alright, we're heading to a Peruvian place. It's supposed to be awesome.
Actually, we've eaten there once before, so I can tell you it's awesome.
I have no idea how to pronounce it.
And we don't have a reservation.
What was that, Kate?
I said, I'll tell you how to pronounce it.
They are fully booked, so they're only taking reservations.
Like, if you had a reservation.
That place was really good.
The food was...
Cocktails were good.
Ceviche was like, blow your mind.
Oh, yeah. Niki's cocktail was $17, but...
Expensive. But everything was excellent.
Very good.
So, if you make it to Calle...
Ocho... No, Cinco...
Then, yeah.
Want to know who these people are?
That's Rufus, and this is Kate.
Hola!
And we've actually made it.
It's 10 to 11 already.
Oh, hey!
Like, 15 minutes past cruising midnight.
Way past all of our bedsides.
And who else do we have over here?
Romantic lovebirds.
Now, see, we're getting complicated with the story here.
I know. The storyline's getting really confusing.
Rufus and Kate are crew on a Leopard 58.
But their contract is ending.
And these lovely people are the new crew.
Reese Witherspoon? What?
Panamanian Reese Witherspoon.
Stop it.
She keeps getting mistaken as Reese Witherspoon.
Which is fine, because I think we got extra truffles.
And some other accoutrements at the restaurant.
Yeah, because they thought she was Reese Witherspoon.
So, that was exciting.
But, we've got Catherine.
Right?
And Daniel.
Originally from South Africa.
Cape Town area, right?
Nazna.
Nazna? Nice.
It's Nazna.
Nazna.
Todo bien. Good to meet you guys.
Mucho gusto.
We should just get beers and drink here.
Think there'll be fireworks at midnight?
I'm sure.
This is probably going to be an amazing conference point.
We're all standing on our right foot.
Well, it's officially 2018.
We're winding down.
It's 1.30 in the morning.
Party's still going behind us.
We're waiting on a cab, which we may or may not get.
I don't know.
I feel like it's a new
year and there is this
weird, crazy thing that happens
mentally
with the turn of the calendar.
It's kind of that reminder
that time is moving forward.
I feel like even the heartbeat in our chest
is like a little ticking
clock reminding us that life
is not everlasting.
And while we certainly can't
go running around like every day is
our last day on earth,
we can go forward
living like we know
it's not going to last forever.
The experiences we've had over
the past years, several years,
but especially this last
year, coming down to Panama,
it's changed us forever.
We just keep pushing ourselves
and it's not...
Yeah, this is our adventure, but it's
because of you that we push ourselves.
We want to be better filmmakers.
We want to be better storytellers.
We want to be better sailors. We want to just share
as much as we possibly can.
And it's because of you
that we want to do that, that we push ourselves.
Yeah, it's the commentary
and the community that we get
back and forth, even sometimes
the constructive criticism,
it all is kind of adding
fuel to the fire,
I guess you could say.
It leaves a mark on us.
That's what it's all about, the community.
And it's been an incredible
year, and for whatever reason,
I feel like it's kind of an every year
I say this, but I'm like,
it feels like the adventure is
just beginning. We're just getting started.
But for whatever reason,
it feels like that, more so
than ever. Yeah, than ever. The whole world
is just right there.
Yeah, it's something about taking
that first big leap, which
we feel like that big long stretch to
Panama was like the beginning of it.
And now we're on the other side
and we're ready to hit the Pacific.
And it just feels
like things are moving.
Stuff's going to happen.
And we feel like you're there
with us. Yeah, and the reflection of
hey, two years ago, we didn't know Diddley's
full out. So,
thanks for being a part of it. Thanks for pushing us to
be better people, to be better
at everything we possibly can do.
And thank you for being a part of our year
and we look forward
to 2018.
I wish I had some champagne
to pop. But that's okay.
Alright, we love you.
Thank you.
Goodnight.
