We're late July and we're headed out to do some crawdadding. We've got
Brenton, Oliver, Scott, Chris and Westy in the front. We're gonna do a big boil tonight so we
have some giant crawdads we want to show you a little bit about what we do out here on the river
in the summer when there's nothing big to kill. So enjoy. Here we go, video going.
So I like to put the traps in as still water as possible and we get some milfoil and stuff
growing out here. So what I do is I get in these coves and I drop it right on the edge of that
milfoil and it's been producing pretty good for us. So let's see what this trap's got.
You can see down here in the water see the the weeds and everything.
Step back Ollie. Anything in there?
Look at the size of that one in the back.
Yeah that's where you trap crawdads. Holy moly. Get his face in that.
That's awesome. That might be the biggest claws we've gotten.
Not to measure those. We're trying to get into a big claw contest.
That's sweet. Awesome.
We're okay. Tunnel jet. This spot looks good to me.
Looks like a few in there. How many?
Pretty good pot. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven of them. Nice. Those are big. So I've tried
a lot of different baits. A lot of people say fish and stuff like that works the best for crawdads,
but I have hands down found that a red meat works about the best. You can use chuck steak or
whatever you want to use for it. But pork's not bad, but red meat like off a cow or deer,
some scrap meat off of a deer is excellent for these crawdads. And fresh bait's always the best.
Once it gets a little old, it seems to lose its potency and they're not attracted to it. So I'm
going to cut up a little bit of bait. The nice thing about these crayster traps is it keeps the
bait right in the middle. I've had so many problems with bait getting around the sides
when it's mounted on the bottom and the crawdads can actually attack it from the outside of the
cage. But these crayster traps keep the bait right in the middle and everything is powder-coated and
simple to use. So I like these a lot. So then we're going to go right behind us here. You can
see all these piers and debris and where the water's kind of calmer. So those see the edge of
the weeds right there? So we'll check that out for a couple hours and then we'll cook them up.
So
man there is nothing quite like summertime in North Idaho.
What I really love about crawfishing is we get out there, we throw the traps in the water,
and we start stacking up the seafood. But while we're waiting, we bust out the tube
and we head to the rope swing and we have one heck of a time out in beautiful North Idaho.
You guys love to go home.
Pull it up Scotty. Oh it's way back there. Is it too heavy Scott? Yeah.
Hope you have some video of this.
I see it. We got some. Oh yeah. There's some. That's a good little pull. Oh yeah look at that
one. That one's got big claws. Four in there. That's a good spot then. Let's get that again.
Some good, that one's good clawed. Look at that thing. See how they pull the meat out of there?
Yeah. Oh yeah, they're already pulling it out. That's a good pull. Four.
It's almost up. There they are. Sweet. That's a big one right there.
Dipped it out the middle of the river.
So that's a good 10 inch or half. Wow that might be the biggest one. That is huge Scotty.
All of our corn, potatoes, mushrooms. We got jalapeno cheese smokies here and some lemon
and we already got potatoes boiling. They got to boil a little bit longer than our other pot's
going to be for all of our crawdads. So we're going to dump this stuff here in a minute and
then we're going to dump the crawdads in. The big ones? These are all pretty good. I'm going to start
throwing these in and then as I hit this, Scott let go. Okay go ahead and throw that in the water
Scott. No throw that one in the water. Dude what kind of beast is that? Look at this thing. Oh my
gosh. Did you measure it? No. Measure it. Look at that thing. Daddy measure it. Dad measure it.
Oh we can measure it before we cook it here. I bet it's about 10 inches. Dude. 10 inches.
Just a hair over 10. You seeing this? Guys a hair over 10. Stretch him back out. So there's zero.
He's past zero and right at 10. That's a 10 inch crawdad. Look at, let's see the claw.
Claw is three and three, three and a half, solid three and a half, three and three quarters.
Dude that's unreal. That's a serious crawdad right there. Can I eat it? Can I eat that one?
Get these mushrooms. They soak up all the flavor. I got some in with the spicy. Scott
don't buddy. All right we got some crawdads ready to eat. Steam just rolling off of them.
Oh my goodness they smell good. We got corn, smokies, mushrooms, potatoes. Everything you
could ever want. Lemons. Great day that you've made for us. We thank you for your provision
lord. We thank you for this place that you've given us in the world and lord we just pray
as we fellowship lord that you'd be glorified. We just want to lift you high and lord pray that you
would just glorify you in our thoughts and our words and our actions tonight. So lord we thank
you. We ask that you'd bless this food to our bodies and give us strength to bring glory to
your name in Jesus's name. So I got this. So first thing I do, yeah so I break that off
and this is all fat in the back end right here and I just scrape that fat off of there. Anything
that you don't like you just scrape it out of there. Esther likes that. She eats that fat up
like crazy, sickening. Panama people. And then you just see how I ran the run one tongue your
fork underneath and just split it and then you can just pop that open and then you got a tail meat
right there and I just kind of run my finger through here and there's a vein right there
and you can pull that vein out. See nothing in that vein and then what you do is you want to
dip it in the butter. You're going to put it up like this. Your elbow needs to be at a 90 degree
angle and then you insert using your jaw muscles. That's the whole thing and then
I know it looks more complicated than it is. So then with the claw,
that didn't look very complicated. There's lots of juice in there that you can suck out.
That's yummy. So you pull off that bottom part of the claw and then run your fork up that
and then I snap this off and then I open that up and the claw meat is excellent. Look at that
and you do the same thing except I do an 80 degree bend on my elbow this time.
And how do you eat those? 70 degree angle typically.
Sound like a math major. Yeah. Oh my gosh look at that thing. This thing is incredible.
He's hanging off both edges of the plate.
That's incredible. What do you think Breton? It's good stuff.
What do you think Chris? Living the life of a king right now.
You Meg? I know. Do you eat these legs? I'm still trying to figure these things out.
Oh don't rip that off. That's wrong.
You know we're out here on this river and we're out here in God's creation.
God has just placed us in a beautiful place here and it just really speaks volumes to His goodness.
You've probably heard me talk about God's goodness a lot. I know we live in a world where
there's so many bad things happening and sometimes we ascribe those bad things to
God like they were God's doing. But the truth about human history is that mankind is rebellious.
We've always rebelled against God. We've kept Him at arm's length. We've denied His existence. We've
denied His leadership and His lordship in our lives. And when every good and perfect thing
comes from God and when He tells us in Psalm 16 11 that in His presence is fullness of joy,
what else do we expect when we keep Him at arm's length? If in His presence is fullness of joy,
then out of His presence is a total absence of joy. And so when we keep God at arm's length,
we are distancing ourselves from goodness. But God is good. And the reality is you're never
going to want to fall in love with God until you understand how good He is. You see Romans
chapter 2 and verse 4 says it is the goodness of God that leads us to repentance. In other words,
it's the goodness of God understanding that He's good. We're looking everywhere else for goodness.
We're looking everywhere else for joy. We're looking outside for all these things. Yet God
is standing right there and He's waiting for us. And in His presence is fullness of joy and He is
good. And as soon as we turn our gaze, you know, Psalm 121 says, I look to the hills for help.
Where will my help come from? My help will come from God who created the heavens and the earth.
And that's the reality is that God is good and He is the sustainer, the provider. He is the
source of everything good and joy. And that's what we're looking for. And, you know, we find
ourselves out on this river and, you know, all the goodness and the blessings of God. God created all
this and He said it was good. And we're pulling these crawdads up. They're 10 inches long and we're
feasting on them and they are good. And so we still see the goodness of God out in His creation.
I speak to the hunters, man. We know it, right? We're out there and we see these things are good.
And then we come back to town and we see humanity and we see the junk that's going on in humanity
and the rebellion against God. And it's not good, right? And so if I can plead anything with you,
look to God's creation. You love it out there. You may say your church is in the mountains,
but here's the deal. When you're out in God's creation, you're still seeing some of the goodness
of who God is. So I just challenge you with that. It's God's goodness that leads to repentance.
That means when you understand that He's good, you're going to change direction. Instead of
going away from God, resisting God, when you understand He's good, you're going to run for Him.
You're going to run to Him. And that's my prayer for you, that you'd run to God today. God bless
you all and have a great day. I just want to take a second and thank you all for watching. I want
