All right, I think this is the fifth Thanksgiving recipe,
most requested recipe that I'm sharing with y'all.
And this is definitely one of my favorites.
And I think my Aunt Peggy shared this recipe with me.
I can't remember.
I've been making it for a hundred years
and this is a sweet potato casserole.
It's a little bit like dessert.
It is a whole lot like dessert, isn't it, Eddie?
Oh my goodness, it's so good.
It's as good as the lady and son's yams.
Now that's truly like a dessert.
Cooked in that syrup, that buttery syrup.
Oh, they're so good.
So I've got three cups of sweet potatoes.
All you have to do is just rinse your sweet potato,
throw it in your microwave, cook it on your potato,
button, and then pull them out and peel them
and mash them up.
It's that simple.
I have used canned sweet potatoes,
but I don't like it nearly as well
as I do that fresh sweet potato.
So we've got one cup of brown sugar.
We've got one cup of white sugar.
We've got two eggs.
We've got, what is that?
A half a stick of butter, Teresa?
Actually, it's a third of a cup.
A third of a cup.
Well, I tell you what, if you wanted to do a whole stick,
that'd be just about perfect too.
And I've got a third of a cup of heavy cream.
I've got one teaspoon.
Let me see, I don't think that'll fit in there.
I've got, oops, one teaspoon of cinnamon,
a fourth of a teaspoon of nutmeg.
And nutmeg is a very strong spice.
Oh no, what did I just do?
I just put one teaspoon of nutmeg in there, y'all.
About to tell you how strong a spice it is.
So we do not want that much nutmeg.
You know, I'm so used to,
I'm so used to knowing what the container looks like.
But I've got that backwards.
All right, so I have taken most of that nutmeg
that I dropped in there accidentally
because what I was gonna say is
nutmeg is a very strong spice.
So that's why-
I'm gonna pinch.
No!
I had one teaspoon in it.
That would have been so strong with,
all right, this is the cinnamon.
And this is a fourth of a teaspoon I'm using.
So I'm gonna use four of those
to make it one teaspoon of cinnamon.
You know what?
I'm used to my nutmeg.
I buy it in those little half sizes.
And I'm not used to it being in a container this big.
So that's my excuse.
That's the only one I got.
Besides just not being able to read.
All right, so we're just gonna mash all this up.
And I really do like doing this with my little hand mixer.
It just goes a lot, lot simpler.
Get that up in there.
Oops, am I slinging it on you, Eddie?
Sorry about that.
That cinnamon and that nutmeg,
and I'm gonna put those eggs in it.
And I don't like tasting it once it's got raw eggs,
but I feel like I'm gonna need to taste it
since I did it back backwards
with the nutmeg and the cinnamon.
Mm, I taste the nutmeg.
I was gonna say, I can smell the nutmeg too.
But you know what?
Surprisingly, it's not too much.
I mean, I think I really and truly dug most of it out.
All right, so we're gonna season our pan.
We're gonna spray our pan so it won't stick.
If I can find my spray, what I did with it, here it is.
This casserole dish, my casserole dishes are in storage,
y'all, so I don't have a whole big selection.
So I may have to cook this in two different batches.
Oh my goodness, I love that smell of that cinnamon.
All right, let's see.
It's gonna make it, isn't it, Eddie?
Yeah.
It's very deceiving.
It's a deep dish.
Yes, it is deep.
Okay, now here comes, look at that,
that didn't come out, I'll put it right there.
This is the good part.
All right, we've got flour.
How much flour was that?
Third of a cup.
Third of a cup of flour,
a cup of chopped walnuts or either pecans.
Well, y'all, I've got to confess,
I made another error on this dish.
It's getting late in the day
and maybe I'm not seeing things clearly.
My eyes may be getting tired,
but anyway, I added a cup of brown sugar
and a cup of white sugar to our potatoes
and it tastes delicious,
but actually the cup of brown sugar was for our topping
and I just stuck it all in the sweet potato,
so this is gonna be really good and sweet.
So I'm gonna need some brown sugar to go on top
and I'm probably-
A cup, it was a cup of brown sugar?
Yeah, it's supposed to be a cup of brown sugar,
but I'm not gonna use that much
since I already put most of it in there.
So I'm just gonna mix that up real good
and then I'm gonna pour my butter in there.
Now, this is the one that's like dessert, Eddie.
This is better than a sweet potato pie, okay?
And then go our nuts.
Now, the recipe calls for walnuts,
but we're using pecans, but either nut will be delicious.
So if y'all are counting,
I screwed up twice on this recipe.
Get my cinnamon mixed up with my nutmeg
and my brown sugar confused with my white sugar.
So look at this.
That's got all of that moistened.
That little bit of butter.
Oh my goodness.
This is actually like,
this is a combination of a pecan or a sweet potato pie.
It's like both of them.
What, pumpkin?
It's like both of them in one dish.
This is out of this world.
Yes, it already looks good.
I know, it already looks good.
It already smells good.
And mine's just gonna be a little sweeter than the normal,
which means Michael Bruva will love it.
So you can't get enough sweet to suit him.
So I'm gonna put this in the oven
and I'm gonna bake it for three and a half hours.
I'm kidding y'all.
I thought since I was screwing up,
I'd go and screw up that too.
Finish it off with a bang.
Put it on 500 degrees for three and a half hours.
500 degrees for three and a half hours.
All right, let's see what the recipe actually says to do.
Doesn't say.
Preheat oven to 325 and bake for 25 to 30 minutes.
So in the oven that goes.
This is, if you've never tried this,
you must, must put this on your menu list for Thanksgiving.
If not Thanksgiving, for Christmas.
But I promise you're gonna love it.
Even with me screwing it up.
If you like me and screw it up,
still gonna be delicious.
All right y'all, our sweet potato casserole is ready.
And I'm telling you, this'll be the head of the table
if you should decide to serve this.
Wow, wow, this is gonna be so powerful, huh?
Yes, it's definitely the dish to get your children
to eat their vegetables.
Oh, man alive.
Man alive.
Hot nuts.
Like I said y'all, this is a combination of sweet potato
and pecan pie on top of that sweet potato pie.
It's so good.
And it is so hot, but so good.
So that's six recipes down, I think,
for the most requested Thanksgiving recipes.
So we got a good minute to go, don't we, Theresa?
Don't we, Eddie?
We gotta tackle desserts, Max.
Yay, desserts.
Oh my gosh, how are we gonna narrow it down to desserts?
I think your vegetables creeped into dessert a little bit.
This is like dessert, y'all.
Love and best dishes, we getting there.
