This is a casual conversation about the process of hardening off houseplants and just plants in general for their move outside. How to move houseplants from inside to outside is pretty simple, but does require a couple weeks of dedication. The method for hardening off plants is generally to give them an additional hour of sun each day they are moved out consecutively until their lighting needs are met. However, with some plants, like crotons, bird of paradise, palm trees, cordylines, fiddle leaf figs etc, I prefer to give them a few days between increments of a couple of hours of light as opposed to the traditional method used for seedlings. This is because most of those plants have broader leaves and are usually just larger plants, so it isn't practical to move them in and out every day. So instead I move them out to low light, leave them in low light for a few days then move them to a little more light for a few more days etc, until their lighting needs have been met. Doing it this way also takes about 10 to 14 days. How to harden off plants for moving outside has multiple methods, I like to take it slow and easy.
