I'm Perry Hargett, class of 2024. I play infield and go to Metrolina Christian Academy.
Played summer ball with the Dirtbags. I'm committed to the University of North Carolina
and this is the day in the life. I kind of got into baseball around the age of three.
Just t-ball and everything kind of like that and I'd say about nine or ten it started to get
kind of something that I really started to enjoy and once we got to the big field it
picked up and my dad was always kind of the one pushing me towards it and encouraging me and
working with me in the cages and whenever I really got to the big field and started getting in the
weight room it really picked up and kind of became my life, something I wanted to pursue.
I picked Carolina over any other program just because of the history and what they showed to
as something I wanted to play four years of baseball for them and the coaching staff really
reached out to me and I enjoyed talking to them, built a good relationship and
just loved the campus when I got up there. Coach Forbes, Coach Gaines, and Coach Rich Vicki really
just showed me that they wanted me to come play baseball for them and also that they had the
the ability to take my game to the next level when I got to the college baseball realm.
The recruiting process really started for me around the end of last summer with UNC. It
was probably about June or July and just picked up the phone with Coach Gaines and was able to
build a good relationship and talk to him for a couple months and then at the end of the summer
they wanted me to go up there and see the campus and meet them and I was able to get on a zoom and
just have a great experience with that and get the offer and kind of see my surroundings and
it seemed to be the best fit for me and that's when I pulled the trigger.
High school baseball is definitely a lot different than the travel circuit and going and playing at
all these big Georgia tournaments and Florida tournaments with Perfect Game and PBR. It's,
you know, everybody knows who you are when you show up. They, you know, everybody makes mistakes
in the game of baseball. It's a failing game so there's a little bit of pressure but you just
go play and know that you didn't get recruited because you sucked. You know how to play the game
of baseball and just go do you. I'd say my greatest strength is just baseball IQ and being able to
control the game whether it's, you know, out in the field at shortstop or in the box knowing
what I need to do to get the game, get the game going and win a baseball game for my team and
weakness that I think I need to work on would be just finding, you know, higher confidence,
higher consistency when things don't go well in a failing game of baseball and, you know,
failing seven out of ten times is successful so just getting better at the mental side of the game.
Yes Perry!
My favorite player in the league to watch is probably Ozzy Obbies with the Atlanta Braves
just because of the way that he loves to enjoy the game and play the game of baseball.
Another guy that I really just love watching hit and play the game would be Ronald Acuna because
he just plays so fast and the power side and the speed side he really brings everything to the
table. Another guy would probably just pure defensive stuff would be Javi Baez even though
he's struggling this year he always brings the defensive flair and plays with swag and confidence.
My favorite baseball memory would probably have to be my first home run on the little field at
age 10 off of live pitching just getting to run around the bases for the first time is
a wonderful thing and just the joy of hitting a home run is something I'll never forget.
Some advice I'd give to, you know, people going through the recruiting process or trying to get
into it would be just play the game of baseball as hard as you can and play it fast. Recruiters
want to see not only how you react when you succeed but also when you fail and just fail with
a team attitude and don't go throwing your stuff or just play the game the right way if you respect
the game the game will respect you back. Today we came out started out in the cages off the tee and
got loose and got some good swings in then we went and hit front toss into the cage as well and
once we were feeling good we came out onto the field and we were able to get some swings in live
and hit some BP then we moved into defensive drills after we threw and threw over from short
got some ground ball work in there and that's a day in the life.
