Hans PFITZNER
Violin Concerto in B minor op. 34
1. Lebhaft, energisch
2. Langsam, sehr getragen
3. Etwa das Zeitmaß des Anfangs
Max Strub, violin
Westfälisches Sinfonieorchester Recklinghausen / Hubert Reichert
Live performance, ca. 1960 or maybe even 1959

This is a document in two respects. Firstly the soloist is said to have been the first one who played the concerto to Pfitzner's own satisfaction. Secondly Max Strub apparently was long after his prime. The recording was made at a public concert, most likely as part of the Abonnementskonzerte of the orchestra under Hubert Reichert. Strub may have been invited because of this early fame as a protagonist of the work. But he could no longer do justice to the work. In plain words: the permance is downright awful. It's a pity. The best playing is the Rococo Gavotte Theme in the last part.
Yet all here who will walk away in disgust remember : it's a document! :-)
