Now let's get into this video.
First we'll check out a gorgeous home in Bel Air Mr. Lucas bought back in 2017.
A few years ago it was reported that the filmmaker dropped almost 34 million dollars on a legendary
estate in the prime Eastgate, Bel Air neighbourhood, also called Mi Patria.
The listing described it as a trophy property in a world-class location, and while it was
built in 1929, it had recently been renovated to exciting standards.
The mansion is located on a 0.89 acre law, and inside spans about 10,000 square feet
with 9 beds and 8 baths.
Previous listing materials claim the home had less bedrooms, but we can assume the changes
came with the renos and upgrades done to the place.
The property surrounding Lucas' Bel Air home is peaceful and tranquil, lined with
private courtyards, fountains, and old-world charm.
A two-story stone-clad entry hall welcomes you inside with a sweeping staircase, and
all of the public rooms open up to the spacious veranda.
Inside the villa, a grand-scale formal living room has fancy wood floors and a fireplace
with arches, while a nearby dining room has French doors to one of the courtyards outside.
The gourmet eat-in kitchen had a marble-topped work island and fireplace, and a large library
with antique mantelpiece could be converted to a screening room with a drop-down screen
available at the push of a button.
Other features of George's Bel Air estate include a spacious master suite with deluxe
bathrooms and custom walk-in closets, as well as a gym elsewhere on the property.
Outside, the gated estate had a large wall for privacy, and in the yard there was a mosaic
pool, pool house, terrace, and small pudding greens surrounded by tropical gardens.
While this home is absolutely gorgeous, it's only one of the many that Lucas owns with
his wife.
Back in 2010, it was reported that Lucas spent about $19.5 million on a beachfront home near
Santa Barbara, California.
It's a few miles down the highway and a posh stretch of sand in Carpinteria, California.
A quieter neighborhood, where more private celebs seem to choose as a getaway, the low-slung
contemporary home offered 1.7 acres of lush landscaping and lawns, and 150 feet of beachfrontage.
We can see listing photos from the time of purchase, and the gated two-building compound
had 6 beds and 4 baths in total, with two of the bedrooms located in the guesthouse
of the property.
The home built in 1981 offered views out to the water thanks to walls of glass all over.
Listing information also noted the estate had an exercise room and a yoga studio, while
the outdoor amenities were rounded out by a large terrace, gardens, and a long lap pool.
While the home was nice, it seems George wasn't even close to being finished with it.
In 2014, another article claimed that Lucas in fact got the home torn down in 2012, only
to completely replace it.
Allegedly, he hired Appleton & Associates to design the home, and it was changed into
more of an east coast inspired abode.
While photos are slim, these days the home features colonial detailing and a wraparound
porch.
We can also see that Lucas kept the original lap pool, but completely did away with the
rest of the modern landscaping and the fountains.
More recently even, in 2019, George decided to upgrade this estate yet again, with an
add-on.
It was reported the filmmaker and billionaire purchased a 2 acre beachfront property directly
next door to his current one, spending 28 million dollars in an off-market deal.
Since the place wasn't on the open market, details are slim to none.
However, the newly acquired property includes a modest cape cod style home near the water's
edge, as well as a detached guest house, small barn, and treehouse just inside the gated
entrance.
Finally, let's take a look at Skywalker Ranch.
Caught off his 1977 hit Star Wars, Lucas began buying up land north of San Francisco in 1979.
These days, he's still the proud owner of the 4,700 acre ranch, and while he doesn't
live there full time, he uses it as a retreat, work, and studio space.
He called it Skywalker Ranch after the movie's protagonist, and the property also contains
a man-made Lake Ewok, as well as many other Star Wars themed places and things.
Lucas started with purchasing a large amount of Lane and Marin County, California.
First off, a property called Bulltail Ranch, and then assembled the rest of it piece by
piece over several years.
Funnily enough, the whole place is located on Lucas Valley Road, named after an early
20th century landowner in the area, but you'd think it was just for George himself.
When he submitted plans for buying his estate, he described Skywalker Ranch as
A sprawling creative retreat where Lucasfilm and their filmmaking colleagues can meet,
study, collaborate, write, edit, and experiment with new filmmaking ideas.
This included ranch actually took about 10 years to build up, and these days its principal
operation is as a motion picture sound mixing and recording facility, with Skywalker Sound
based here, and holds the corporate offices of Lucasfilm.
It's intended to be more of a filmmaker's retreat than a business headquarters, as Lucasfilm
and its subsidiaries have a location to do all of that elsewhere.
When George is staying here, the main home was designed to look like an 1869 Victorian
home of a cattle rancher, and spans 50,000 square feet of space.
He explained he wanted it to look like a real Victorian building, and had a passion for
making the place what he envisioned.
Inside the main house, among the many spaces, there's a two level company research library
under a stained glass dome.
In fact, this library is so special it has its own wing in the mansion, and is infused
with a warm orangey glow from the dome above.
A redwood spiral staircase winds its way up to more and more books on subjects like military,
history, nature, and more.
Lucas also keeps his special artifacts here in the main home, such as the original lightsabers
from Star Wars, and Indy's dusty hat from Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Just to name a few.
Elsewhere on SKYWALKER RANCH you'll find a movie production studio, a bed and breakfast,
three restaurants, and even an olive grove.
There's a barn with animals, vineyards, a garden with fresh produce for the restaurants,
an outdoor swimming pool and fitness centre, a hilltop observatory, and a 300 seat theatre
called the Stag, plus additional screening rooms.
At the main guest complex here, beams were painted to match planks recycled from chicken
coops, and rooms are themed after people Lucas admires.
In the John Ford room, smoking is permitted because the director was a smoker, and there's
a Frank Lloyd Wright room, one for Dorothy Parker, Ansel Adams, and more.
Skywalker Ranch even has its own fire brigade to protect the estates, and they're an active
part of the Marin County Fire Mutual Aid Program.
More than 100 firefighters work here and assist overnight, especially with guests.
Ok, I think after seeing Skywalker Ranch we'll bring this house tour to an end because that's
hard to top.
After seeing George Lucas' properties, what did you think?
Like I said, on top of these sprawling properties, he and his wife Melody also own a large compound
in San Anselmo, with a home spanning over 15,000 square feet and several guest houses
which they use as their main estates, and they also have a 19 million dollar penthouse
in Chicago.
If you guys had to choose between Mr. Lucas' Bel Air mansion we looked at first, his beach
front compound near Santa Barbara, or Skywalker Ranch, which would you want to pay a visit?
I think that's an easy guess because I'm gonna say Skywalker Ranch.
You guys let me know or rate the filmmakers properties down in the comments.
