1. NEW MARUTI SUZUKI EV AND SUVs AT AUTO EXPO
The upcoming Auto Expo 2023 is set to have quite the line-up with a bunch of new models making it to the grand motor show. India's largest carmaker - Maruti Suzuki too is gearing up for a strong participation at the Auto Expo unveiling two new SUVs and an electric concept. The first SUV is likely to be the five-door version of the Suzuki Jimny which has been spotted testing in India several times, while the second model is expected to be a subcompact SUV which will take on the likes of the Tata Punch. The concept electric car is likely to be the YY8 EV which is expected to hit the road in 2025 and deliver a range of around 500 km on a single charge.
2. MARUTI QUESTIONS STANDARD SAFETY FEATURES NORM
Maruti Suzuki India's Chairman - RC Bhargava has questioned the need for equipping vehicles with more standard safety features while not focusing on other accident-causing factors. He advocated that adopting more safety technologies would make vehicles more expensive, while vehicles' and drivers' fitness should be a bigger focus area in a bid to prevent accidents. Bhargava also added that NCAP is hugely funded by safety component makers and meeting NCAP safety standards would not have a significant impact on reducing accidents in India. His reaction comes after Maruti's prominent models like the Swift, Ignis and S-Presso performing poorly in the recent Global NCAP crash test.
3. DUCATI MOTORCYCLES TO GET EXPENSIVE
Ducati India has announced a price hike for its entire India model range, effective January 01, 2023. However, the Italian brand has not specified the quantum of the hike. It cited a substantial increase in raw material costs, production expenses and logistics costs as major factors for the price hike.
