Deputy Minority Leader Bob Quattrocchi: "Job Misclassifications"

Rhode Island House Republicans

Representative Robert Quattrocchi questions DLT's Assistant Director of Administrative Services Matt Weldon during the Finance Committee hearing of Article 6 of the Governor's budget, where DLT fees and fines increased to the tune of $4.2 million. During the testimony, DLT's justification was that they to want to route out "job misclassifications", defined as people who are working as subcontractors, to avoid their employer's having to pay workmans comp and other taxes. Quattrocchi's concern is that legitimate contractors are getting caught in their web, which was confirmed when Weldon stated, "anything is possible".

"Even one legitimate contractor being abused by RIs over regulation, is too much. I was also concerned when DOA Director of the Office of Management and Budgets stated earlier in the hearing that we need to 'incentivize proper behavior in the public', and by incentivize, he meant punish with fines. This is not what our founding fathers intended our government to be used for," stated Rep Quattrocchi.
