Hi everyone, welcome back to my allotment diaries. My name is Emma. These are my allotment diaries.
I'd love for you to hit the subscribe button. We're getting into February now. I'm going to
start planting some things out soon, so follow along and see what my allotment looks like this
year basically. You can always have a look back on my other videos and see what it was like last year.
Oh god, can you hear that bird singing? Can you hear that bird singing Ali? Yeah,
he's singing a really nice tune. I wonder what kind of bird he is?
That's a really nice, it's just like, that's just like a nicer bird.
It's like making an actual tune as opposed to the crows that are just like.
Yeah, some nice birds here today, so that makes, that's quite nice isn't it? There's some nice
birds here, um because you know I judge birds. I made this the other day and I forgot to bring
a blimmin screwdriver, so today I brought a screwdriver. So I'm just going to screw this
in and see if I can get some more screws in to hang my tools on. I thought it was quite an
effective way of hanging my tools. I don't know if you can see there by the way, I'm hoping you
can. But yeah, I brought a screwdriver this time, a really big one as well. I don't know if that
makes a difference, but yeah, so I thought I would just, I think it's held up pretty well.
If I can get it in a bit more, that's what she said. It's okay, Ali's gone. Let's see if I've
got any more screws with me. I think I have. I'll screw another one in. So I think it's working out
pretty well. It's quite a cheap way of hanging my tools up, um and an efficient way I think,
as long as I don't fall on them and impale my eye or something stupid like that. It might happen,
but you know, you can't plan for every eventuality can you? Right, I'm sort of hoping just, I mean
obviously I need some more tools because I haven't got that many to hang, but I'm sort of hoping it'll
don't look very safe does it? Maybe not a hammer.
Maybe not a hammer. Let's hang a saw instead. Yeah, saw. Excellent. Have I got any more tools
to hang? That's the thing. Seems like quite a lot of effort to go to, to hang a pair of scissors.
There we go. Staple gun, pride and joy. Right, there we go. Let's have a look at it. It just
sort of looks like I know what I'm doing here now. Like it looks professional, everything's
hanging up, it looks like everything's got a place, and then you sort of look down here and
you think whoa, she needs to sort her life out. But when you look there, it's like yeah,
she's sorted it out you know. So it's quite good really. It's definitely more efficient
than the twine hanger, which was just a bit of a joke really. I can already feel that I'm going
to have more space in this shed now, which feels great. I can already feel like just getting things
off the floor, I think, is the key to any shed structure. It's just getting as much off the
floor as you can. Sweet peas are doing really, really well at the moment. I'm really hoping that
I'll be able to plant them out at the end of Feb, fingers crossed, because I know they can cope with
a little bit of cold. I don't know if they're getting any bushier. You know I gave that big
old lecture about, you know, pinching them out to make them bushier. I don't know. I don't know if
they are getting any bushier. They just seem to stop growing at the moment, but that's probably
a good thing because they're not ready to plant out yet. Fingers crossed. These are doing all right,
so that's a good sign. These are the irises that my neighbour gave me that I'm pretty sure I've
killed now. Mind you, they have sort of been in the water. I might just see if I can prise them
apart and whack them in the pond. I haven't got any pots for them, but I'm hoping they'll just
sort of survive in the water. Let's give that a go, I think, because I don't want to waste them.
I just feel bad because I don't want to waste them. Look at that lot of them.
It's just like a mass of like hair. I don't really know how to prise them apart.
I don't know if that's going to do anything, to be honest.
Who knows? I might have irises in there next year. Maybe not. Maybe not. It's in there. There we go.
We'll see what happens with that because I don't bloody know what to do with them. So there we go.
It's a nice thought though, but just mention how nice it is that I'm not wearing a coat today
when like literally two days ago I was freezing my butt off here with hats, gloves, scarf,
everything, and now I'm like not wearing a coat. So that's nice, isn't it? It feels like spring's
on the brink now. Garlic's doing really well at the moment. All come up in a neat little
rose like soldiers. I don't know if I've planted them too close together or not. I'm sure I'll find
out. I think they're okay actually. I can imagine a garlic bulb. They're not elephant garlic,
they're normal garlic. So fingers crossed. But yeah, they all look really healthy. I can't
believe they've come up to be honest. I'm going to pick some more purple broccoli today because
I think there's a lot to harvest now and I need to take it home. There's another nice bird.
Oh, it's a robin. Oh, I just scared it. It's a robin. Oh, look. I like them. I like robins.
Gosh, he's noisy. There he is singing a lovely song he is. I don't know what he's going on about,
but it's buggered off. It's gone. Sad enough. Right, I'm just going to check on my broad beans.
You might know the broad bean drama where they all froze over. Well, they all appear to have
survived. Okay, right, hang on a minute. I say that but I haven't even bloody checked yet.
I say they've survived. I don't know. Yeah, they've all survived. Hopefully now that the weather's
picking up a bit, they will sort of take off a bit more and sort of go full steam ahead.
Hear that, guys? Full steam ahead for me now, all right? We're ready for you. I've got my little
Morrison's bag to put my broccoli in. It's like I'm going shopping. I am sort of, but I've grown
it. Reward for the stress I've gone through to grow this stuff. Yeah, look, there's loads of it
now. There's loads of it. Absolutely beautiful. So much of it. I need to stop picking it so that
I get more. Gosh, you can just see it now, can't you? Look, I don't even need to get close to it.
It's beautiful. Look at that. If there was never ever an advert to get people to grow purple
broccoli, I think this is it. Look how stunning it is. Honestly, it's absolutely delicious.
It really is. It's just one of the best things I've ever grown, and it's so easy,
and then you just get so much of it. You can just keep picking it. It's just fantastic.
In my absolute oblivion state, which I'm usually in, I didn't notice that this has happened to my
glass panel, which is obviously blown over in the wind and just completely smashed all over my
strawberry plants, which is just bloody brilliant, isn't it? I'm going to have to come back and clear
that up, I think. No one's here at the moment, so it should be okay, but that's really annoying.
I'm going to have to go and get some really thick gloves from home because my gloves are not even
going to try and clear that up. Look at it. I mean, it's just literally smashed into a thousand
pieces, which is exactly what I did not want to happen to this, which is very annoying, but
as is life, so I will have to get some gloves and come back and tidy that up.
All right, guys. It's absolutely pouring down with rain now. I don't know if you can tell,
so I'm going to leave the vlog there today. I hope it was enjoyable. Sometimes there's not
much for me to do here, but I need to come down to Watermouth Sweet Peas and stuff and check on
stuff and harvest stuff, so that's a lot of stuffs in one sentence, isn't it? I'm going to come back
later in the week and sort out the glass, make the raised beds at the end of the plot and decide
which ones. I'm going to bring some compost as well and start filling up my beds with some new
compost, so I hope you stay tuned for that. I will see you next time, guys. I hope you're all well.
See you in my next vlog. Thanks for watching. Bye.
