Protecting Plants & Palms From Extreme Cold || Saturday Vlog

Frozen! Everything is frozen! In this week's vlog, I am working on covering my plants to protect them from extreme cold. Sometimes us gardeners have to deal with unexpected and unusual cold snaps. This is when I break out my pop up greenhouses, christmas lights and frost cloths. There are a lot of methods for protecting plants from cold, especially for how to protect palm trees from cold. All of my cold hardy palms should be able to handle this short snap of extreme cold weather with the simple protection I used here in this video. When the palms get larger, the pop up style covers aren't practical. When they get too large, I wrap them with frost cloth, lights and then another layer of frost cloth. It is also a good idea to soak some frost cloth in an anti-transpirant, allow it to dry, and stuff that into and around the crown the plant to help keep moisture from accumulating and aiding in crown rot. I didn't do this, it isn't likely needed for needle palms and sabal minor palms unless it dips below zero. I also showed some new seeds that came from eden brothers and johnnys select seed.
