Use A Miter Saw As A Radial Arm Saw?! (MOST PEOPLE DON'T KNOW THIS!! MITER SAW DEPTH STOP)
Radial arm saws have fallen out of common usage because they're not portable and they can be fairly dangerous. BUT, they had some interesting features, including the ability to set the depth of your cut.
What most people don't realize is that the modern miter saw also has a built-in depth stop. This allows you to use a miter saw as a radial arm saw! You can use your miter saw to quickly make grooves, rabbets and dadoes this way.
How-To Use A Miter Saw As A Radial Arm Saw:
1) Locate the little latch or lever on the side of your miter saw (often near the motor housing)
2) Flip the lever down (depth stop)
3) Turn the depth stop bolt or threaded rod
4) Turn the counter-tighten wing nut for the depth stop
5) Check height of blade as you lower miter saw
6) Adjust depth stop bolt until it is at desired height
7) Test depth of cut
8) Use a backer block to push stock forward
9) Make clean miter saw passes all the way through stock at desired height
That's how you use a miter saw as a radial arm saw! This will help you make clean grooves and dadoes and dado cuts without setting up a table saw or router table!
