[ Quarter-Final ] USA vs Brazil 2-2 All Goals & Highlights | 2011 WWC

In the camp for the last couple of days, here's the Brazil side recalling Diane in place of Renata Costa. Deadly duo Marta and Cristiane punish the US with goals in the semi-final for you. Keep the same end they are at at the moment. There's the United States team winger Heather O'Reilly whose pacey runs were badly missed against Sweden. She's fit again and replaces Megan Rapinoe in the only change. And Pia Soonhagen has... From Australia, graphic designer Jackie Melchion. And you might be able to hear a few words... Tonight is going to be critical. Between these two teams and how much heartache the US has caused for that number 10. Five time best player in the world and she has never won a title. How much that must weigh on her every day. Of course of Abby Wombat wearing the number 20. Wombat let that run cleverly. Box keeps it in, pulls it back across the plate to go. What a start for the US. And an absolutely perfect start for the United States. And look at Shannon Box. Krieger getting a good looking cross in. That weak side is going to be on all day for the United States. Marta. Turned very, very fast on that. Nearly found Morena. Brazilian keys. About letting a left foot shot go. Hustled out of it in the end. Rosana. Eats the cross again. Great pressure on the ball from Lauren Chaney. It's a superb start from the USA. Maybe the two... Chance of USA. Around the ground as Christy Rampone plays that towards Wombat. She says she didn't but a call has been given. That critical. And a good... Period of ascendancy. Chaney. Playing it long. Stare. Drives. It goes a long way. That was Erika breaking forward. And she was missing against Sweden. What a big player she is. Now then. La Palvette. Tries her luck. Could be a story. If Amy La... Scored after what... Even she would have made a difficult tournament for her so far. And a good start all around by the United States. Once again. It's a long way and soon is the clock. Just switching a little bit as Marta curls one towards the back. And here. So low. Doesn't get there. And the header is into the side. Netting. From Aline. The defender. Who might have done better there. And that's twice Aline has been on that back post. Here's the foot race. And Marta wins those usually. Rampone trying to... Signs are flashing a little now. And here's the ball in. Tag. Rodriguez has a great chance here to make it up. Hurry the chance a little rather than closing on goal even more. But now wait a minute. Here is Formiga. Can't keep it down. Now has to get back into her central midfield position quite quickly. To help out Shaman Box. And there's a high foot. And Lloyd is going to be booked. For that. In the semi-final four years ago. Shaman Box was sent off. With the score. 2-0 to Brazil. And that's a yellow for Carly Lloyd in this one. That's dangerous as well. Get this type of matchup in a quarter-final. You love it in a sense. Strong run by Lloyd. Who is fouled. On this occasion. Brazilian midfield player. As Rampone knocks this long. It ought to be the goalkeeper. Dayane's long ball goes a long way. Solo says that's mine. Grabs it. Just like a goalkeeper should. Cleaned out everybody else. And... A bit of treatment needed here. So far so good for the USA. But... One or two nerve-wracking moments along the way. Cristiane looking for movement. A hell of a... Got Marta up there with her. Cristiane goes alone. Solo... Keeps her clean sheet record. Against Brazil. Rodriguez made a mess of it. And that's given Fabiana another chance. Oh, it's hit the bar. Solo couldn't reach it. From a mistake. By the Americans. Some miscommunication by the Americans. Amy Rodriguez unable to clear it. And then this is what... Cristiane... Look at the gaps that Brazil gives us. Stop playing the ball into the neck. Fighters of the USA go in with this lead. And they will go in with the lead. An end goal by Dayane after 74 seconds. Clayton Lima, the Brazilian coach, with work to do. His side were not fluent in that half. Didn't create much. And all those stats are there to be broken, of course. Rosana's arriving. So too is Formiga. If they can find a cross... Can't. Goal kick. And what a perfect example of the switch at the start of the game of... Rosana. And here's danger. Rosana. Stays on her feet. Rampham got a challenge and it's a corner. It was a danger there of conceding a penalty as well on that slalom run. The midfielders too. Now here's the corner defense. Solo goes for it. Free kick is given. That looked about as deliberate as I've seen. Cristiane. Tries a lot, great effort. Solo acrobatically at the second attempt. That was certainly one for the photographers that she showed real elasticity here. Hope Solo. Getting to appear a bit ominously. And Solos. Cut that. Now as well as Fabiana. Break down the right-hand side. I think eventually you can pull one back but I used to always be concerned about it. Rapino with the cross in. Goes a long way. And hits the bar. Connie Lloyd. So close to a second. Oh what a good ball by Megan Rapino. Sits it up there. And Lloyd does well to chop in. Over. Marta. Oh brilliant from Marta. Bueller was sensationally good there. And what's the referee going to give here? She's giving a red card I think here. She's got a red card in her hand. Who is she walking after? What is it with Hope Solo? And Brazil. Got a yellow card for that as well. This is highly contentious. Now look at this again. Does she move off the line? No. That is an astonishing display. They're favouring Brazil. Solo surely can't save again. No not this time. Brazil are level. United States are absolutely incensed. Marta scores. And it's really only incidental that she's now out on her own. She does have these moments of genius. And that's what set up the whole incident in the first place. With that header. She might be able to get a shot away. Good. Flick her foot. And you're seeing a fatigued Brazil side. The US with 10 players dictating play right now. It's the team that's down to 10. And I think they really have a lot of incentive. This is a tough situation for me. Because I'm very frustrated. I'm balanced. Stay neutral. In the World Cup semi-final four years ago. Takes on Dayane. Aline. And an offside flag is going up here. Cut back to Marta. Who scores brilliantly. A touch of genius from the world's greatest player. And now the US has a real challenge. With a player down to get out of this one. Crazy rebound to Wombat. Just got enough on it. Andrea to keep that out. Otherwise Abby Wombat would have put the US... Rapinoe curls in it. Solo difficult. What a tough ball. Again the trajectory. And Snoop Solo in a spot of bother. That's half time in extra time. The United States are 15 minutes away from elimination. From this World Cup. It would be the first time ever they went up. Got the Brazil goal. 2004 Olympics. Rapinoe. Still going. What about that from Christiane. It's going to be a free kick as well. Rapinoe. Uniforms in there. Lloyd from a long way. And that will just about be that. Scored that dramatic goal. Cut back. Beautifully. Is there going to be a third? Box. Couldn't keep it down. Three minutes of additional time. There is still life for the United... Rapinoe gets a crossing. It's towards one. Has saved the USA's life in this World Cup. It is over. It will be a penalty shootout. An incredible finish. One of the great climaxes to any World Cup match. Brazil are denied. Angarelli. German goalkeeper. So who's going to take them I wonder I would think. Can Box do it this time? Yeah, you bet you can. 1-0 USA. Penalty was saved in normal time. She's put this one in though. 1-1. Scores here too. Great penalty. Yep, she did. And scored. Great goal. 3-2. Yes! Brilliant save from Solow. Brilliant save. One is legal. And now that means... Yep. Clears the whistle. Which means... Still goes. And how fitting is this? Ali Krieger who recovered from that life-threatening illness five years ago. And she does. And the USA are scored. It's been a near miracle this in Dresden. What a story. Happy World Cup.
