Hello my name is John and in this video I'm going to give you some tips if you're planning to travel to Malta
I was in Malta a few weeks ago which is a country an island located south of Italy
It's almost as big as Africa and the truth is it's a place that surprised me a lot
It's a place that can be visited very quickly with just a couple of days three at most
It's enough to see the main island of Malta as well as the surrounding ones
but it also depends on the time of year you go For example if you go in the summer
It is a very touristy and vacation spot especially for swimming in the area
I would say to be at the beach but Malta isn't known for its beaches
It's rare to find a beach or cove with sand I think there is one but very very small
It's usually packed with people meaning that normally the usual thing is to be on the rock
But it's a place that's very touristy and since it's such a small island it gets filled up
It's such a popular place among young people that they go there to study English literally
As I already said in the videos if you haven't seen my Malta videos I'll leave them here above
but basically young people go out to party it's a place where there's a lot of partying in the summer
And they will use the excuse of studying English which some people will do but we all know the truth
And nothing else but it's completely legal And if you go out of season for example in my case I went in the middle of January
Well it's hard for you to go with the intention of bathing so you'll go more to visit what is the island itself
And with that a couple of days is enough for at least the main island
If you have more time you can enjoy more relax more enjoy the people the places and so on
but as for the visit it's very quick In my case I visited what is the Blue Grotto
It is a rocky formation like a rock arch in the mountain in the southern part
It is a 10-minute drive from the Malta airport and then other areas I visited
It was for example the towns of Medina and Rabat which have very Moroccan names
They are there west of the Blue Grotto that I mentioned to you it will be about 15 minutes by car
and there are very nice towns with these ancient walled cities
because Malta is a city that has been ruled by the English the Spanish the Arabs the French by all the world
And the influences of all these civilizations can be seen throughout the island
In this case in Medina for example I tell you there is a walled city
With a huge cathedral right in the middle the Medina Cathedral which is very beautiful
Near or next to Medina is Rabat which is already the suburb city of Medina by its translation
That's where everyone who lives in that area already lives he lives there in Rabat
And there you also have a city that is very well preserved
It has some churches that are great and then beneath some of those churches you have catacombs to visit
what was used as shelters during World War II
There is a museum so it's definitely worth visiting this part of Rabat
Then there's La Baleta which is the capital of Malta
It's a capital I think of the smallest in the world because it's a capital that is one kilometer long
And about I don't know 600 meters wide or something like that so it's a tiny capital and it's visible very quickly
It has a few accommodations meaning if you're wondering where you can stay in La Baleta
You have plenty of options but it tends to be much more expensive
Where there are more options is in Sliema which is west of La Valette
You can take a ferry that takes less than 10 minutes and there you have many more options and it's much more economical
In fact that's where I stayed But
keep in mind that the last ferry of the day at least in winter
From La Baleta to Sliema and vice versa the times are usually 7:30 PM
Then if you don't stay until very late in La Baleta for example
because to come back you know it's not like you're stuck there on an island because there's a land connection
But you will have to take for example a bus and go all the way around which can take quite a bit longer
But anyway it's just about keeping that in mind
La Baleta is a super cool place to visit it has the Cathedral of St John
It has the Presidential Palace that's there there are some museums
Very ancient archaeological sites
Even if you catch it around 4 in the afternoon in the eastern part of La Baleta
There are views of three cities which are historic walled areas located to the east
And when you see that you are on a terrace with a view of those three cities you will see some cannons
Then at 4 in the afternoon there is a very short show in which they fire cannons with real gunpowder
Obviously without a projectile but it does make a loud noise and is very interesting to watch
To get around Malta you have the option of public transportation basically the bus
But there haven't been very good things about public transportation either I don't know if it's better now
But it is true that you can't really fix the schedule and such you can end up leaving late
I rented a car in my case it was the most comfortable for me and it was very cheap
I think it was 10 euros a day or something like that and with that you can move around the whole island freely
Yes there areas where it's more difficult to park for example in the area of La Valeta it's practically impossible
I managed to park at Sliemann where the hotel was next to the hotel and I was already moving around on foot without any problems
And for Medina and Rabat as well you can park it on the outskirts and in 5 minutes you're in the center on foot
Then it was really worth it for me because the car gives you that freedom
And especially if you don't go with a lot of time you optimize it much more
But if you rent a car keep in mind that there they drive like in England
It is driven on the left with the steering wheel on the right and the gear shift on the left
Then if you've never done it before it's a bit hard to get used to
It didn't have any difficulty it was my first time driving that way
and at first it feels a bit strange and you're constantly doing it
Get in the car and keep making the gesture of grabbing the seatbelt from here and it's in the middle of the car
You'll shift gears with your right hand and elbow the door
But aside from that it has no difficulty
And to show you how small the island of Malta is I was driving the car for a couple of days
And when I went to return it I didn't even have to put any gas in it
You know that they usually give you the deposit full and you return it full
Well the island is so small that I never had to go to the gas station
because when I returned it they still had the maximum that is you really drive very few kilometers
That's why I'm telling you that it's a bother with the car because walking takes you much longer obviously
But it's a hassle finding buses that are connected when the island is actually so tiny
Besides the places I've mentioned there are some other towns that I would hate to miss visiting
But anyway you can look into it and see what might interest you more
There's a place called Popeyes Village or something like that
I'm not sure of the name but it's something like a kind of I don't know
A theme park dedicated to Popeye because it seems that a live-action Popeye movie was filmed there
I haven't seen it I don't know but a very cartoonish population was recreated
There everything around Popeye is still standing today and can be used as a theme park
I don't know if it has attractions but anyway you can visit the little houses eat there I don't know
They have little things so take a look there maybe it's interesting
If I had more time I would have just gone out of curiosity
So that's it for the tips from Malta I hope you found them useful
If you have any questions or doubts about it please leave them in the comments
I don't think the video is too long and that 's
it thank you so much for getting this far
And see you next time Goodbye
