Hey guys, this is Mikey Chen.
Did you ever wake up one day and was just like,
you know what, today I only want to eat dessert.
Yep, breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert.
And since I'm an adult now, sometimes,
that's what I'm going to do, and I'm taking you with me.
And of course, this is New York City,
so there are a ton of dessert options out there.
And though as hard as I may try,
I probably won't be able to get to all of them today.
So in this video, we're going to focus
on some of the most delicious
and the coolest Asian desserts of New York City.
And we're going to start off here in Brooklyn.
My first stop is Xing Fa Bakery,
home to, in my opinion, the best egg tarts in New York.
Let's go.
Just got my egg tarts, so excited.
The thing about getting egg tarts here
is that you can't just come here and buy it.
You have to order it ahead of time.
So I have the phone number for you guys
in my description box.
Order it and get these eggs.
These don't look...
What happened?
They shrunk this.
All right, first is McDonald's, then it's Burger King.
Now, like, my Chinese bakeries are shrinking their food.
It used to be almost, I don't know, at least 50% bigger.
And now, I mean, it's still delicious-looking,
smells great, but it's shrunk.
I've been thinking about these
ever since I moved to California.
Eggy, tarty memories.
Look at the jiggle, look at that.
Luckily, the flavor has not changed.
Custard, it's so sweet and creamy.
The crust, it's like thousands of layers of butter
just touching your tongue and disappearing.
This thing just makes you feel happier, you know?
I wish someone would invent like a life-size swimming pool
filled with this custard and you can just, like, dive in
and you just, like, eat your way out.
In my opinion, best egg tart,
Portuguese egg tart, by the way, in New York City.
I mean, I am really upset that they shrunk the food,
but still, it's $1.25 per egg tart.
I guess I'm just gonna have to buy a bunch more.
Location number two, Igloo.
These are the three recommended flavors here,
the Jessica, David, and Mike.
I wanna go with the Mike, but this looks so good.
I'm gonna go with the David.
Let me twirl you around, buddy.
Let's get a little romantic before we dig in.
This is one of the most popular street food snacks
in Hong Kong.
I had this when I was in Hong Kong,
but this really takes it up a notch, right?
You got ice cream in there,
and then what they put in here is sesame ice cream
they make themselves, so I'm really excited to try that.
Oh, black sesame is like a superhero.
There's not much it can't do.
You can put it on a bagel,
you can put it on, like, a piece of chicken,
and you can make it into ice cream.
If you guys never had this before,
these are really eggy waffles,
and they're better than waffles because they're thinner,
they're airier, they're crispier.
Let me just break off one of these little air pockets here.
Ah, did you hear the crunch?
I wish they would make a bigger version of this,
and I'll just use it as a pillow,
and whenever I wake up in the morning,
I can just eat that, and that'd be my breakfast.
Talk about convenience.
Also, what you can do is,
you can take your little eggies
and just dip it into the ice cream.
That's a delicious cooling bite.
You know what I wish they would do
that would make this even better?
Is that they would somehow figure out a way
to put the ice cream inside the little air pockets,
so every bite you take, it's like a crispy ice cream pocket.
And there's a couple of Pocky stick in here.
I'm gonna have a Pocky and sesame ice cream.
Mm, perfect on a hot day like this.
All right, on to location number three.
This place is a Chinatown institution.
The original Chinatown ice cream factory.
Hey, I just wanna ask you guys,
do I look like this guy at all?
I mean, because our ice cream eating position
is basically identical.
They have some really awesome flavors here.
Egg custard!
I just had a egg tart, so I'm gonna skip that.
Mango papaya, Thai tea, smelly dorian.
This might be really awesome.
Green tea Oreo.
I may need that in my life.
This looks awesome, lychee rose.
Smells like romance.
Oh.
Oh, man.
Lychee itself is already really fragrant.
I think you add some rose to that.
Smells like I'm on a date.
Zen butter.
Almost fell.
It's very buttery.
Mm, oh, that's delicious.
I had dorian ice cream in Hong Kong.
I don't like dorian.
But, man, it's a flavor to try.
That is legit.
Oh.
If you love dorian, you will love this.
But, a little too much for me.
I think I have made my decision.
I think I'm gonna get a cup of lychee rose
with maple bacon and some green tea jelly.
I feel like that's a very east-west combo.
You got the bacon, got the green tea jelly.
This is the lychee rose and the maple bacon.
I'm gonna try the maple bacon.
It's like eating bacon dipped in maple syrup.
Grab some of this lychee rose ice cream.
This might be my new favorite ice cream.
That is delicious.
Yeah, okay.
I'm allowed one dad joke a video.
I love this place because, first of all,
the quality of the ice cream is so superb.
Also, they have all these great flavors.
So, definitely check it out.
On to location number four.
You guys remember the videos on Facebook and Instagram
where you see a piece of cake
and it's just jiggling and dancing,
acting all beautiful?
Well, they serve that here at Keki.
Let's go get a piece.
This is Stephanie.
She's gonna, she's just giving me a piece of free keki.
And this is castella keki, Taiwanese version.
Oh my god.
I don't need to chew this.
I don't.
Like, it just, it's gone.
It's gone.
See?
Not here anymore.
Thanks, Stephanie.
Just gave me some cheesecake ones to try.
Look how bouncy it is.
Did you see that?
Wow, that's good.
This is like air.
It's like eating air.
Thank you.
Thank you, Stephanie.
I'm just gonna take some.
Okay, you can take the whole thing to your friends.
Thank you.
You're welcome.
It's good to have a YouTube channel.
What do you guys think?
This is bomb.
This is bomb?
We don't have to chew it, right?
It's good for babies.
It's good for babies and me.
See how nice and fluffy?
My finger can just, like, jump on this.
It's caving now.
It really does feel like I'm eating a piece of cheese
that's actually a piece of bread,
but it's cheese, but then it's bread.
I'm really confused here.
Look how delicate that is.
That's really sexy.
That's the sexiest thing I've seen all day.
I feel like I could blow on this
and it would just start dancing.
This is a samurai of cake right here.
Look how intricate this process is.
I feel like you need to go to school for accounting
to do this.
I can already smell the cheese from here.
Look at that whole cake vibrating
with every subtle cut.
See how that whole thing is just moving and shaking?
Ooh.
You gotta cradle each piece like a little baby.
Otherwise, it will just fall apart.
I've never seen anybody treat cake
like a little infant,
with love and care and precision as this man here.
Look at all the oozy cheese.
Location number five.
I'm back in Elmhurst and I am at the Sugar Club.
They tell me this is a very traditional Thai dessert.
There's whipped cream on top, mango ice cream,
fresh mangoes, almonds,
and then the bottom of the glass is pandan sticky rice
burning hot right now.
I couldn't dig deep enough,
so let me just try the top three layers.
Wow, this thing is uber refreshing.
It's really hot out today
and this is exactly what I needed.
You would think like mango on mango on whipped cream
might be a little too much,
but I think it's pretty perfect.
Let me just try to bite past the mango a little bit.
Oh, here we go.
The big scoop of the pandan sticky rice.
Let me get some ice cream.
So this is gonna be an all-inclusive bite.
I got the ice cream, which is cold,
the mango is cold,
and the sticky rice is still hot.
Oh, that sticky rice is good.
Huge pandan flavor.
So that definitely adds a lot of texture
because you got the cool creaminess of the ice cream,
fresh juiciness of the mango.
Then you got that chewy rice.
And the more you chew,
the more the pandan flavor releases.
Of course, then add the element of crunch from the almonds.
Favorite dessert all day.
I think I might love you.
Is that, is that too soon?
I wanna finish it all,
but I have to share with like these people.
Get that pandan rice.
What do you think?
Good, right?
Don't get too much.
Really good place.
Wish I could try out the rest of the menu,
but now onto Flushing.
Brand new all-you-can-eat hot pot,
Korean barbecue place across the street.
I'll be back for that.
Hey guys, I'm in Flushing,
on my way to the sixth spot of the day.
Oh, by the way,
Snow Days is a popular shaved ice place,
a lot of people love.
I'm not gonna go there
because I already did a video about that place,
and I'll link it in my description box.
Let's go get some Thai ice cream.
I first had this at a 10 Below in Manhattan,
and I'm in Queens Crossing in the basement.
They opened a new branch here,
and look at this.
It's like legit 30 minute wait.
This is Sabrina,
she's making my ice cream.
Sabrina, you are the ice cream ninja.
Smashing the fruit part.
Vincent's making my other ice cream.
You guys are like fruit masters.
Fruits ice masters.
Sabrina, is that fun?
It's rolling in fun.
It looks fun.
What?
I just love it.
Whenever the torch comes out,
and I get something like that's just barbecued.
I feel like the biggest difference
between this ice cream and a regular ice cream
is the texture.
It's just layered.
You see how it's like a fruit roll-up of ice creams.
I don't know why,
but strawberry ice cream has always been my favorite.
I don't know what makes this taste so good,
whether it's because the ice cream itself is really good,
or if this whole process is just so much fun.
I gotta have my roasted marshmallow.
Toasty.
This guy's really awesome.
They offered me a second ice cream,
and you know, yeah, of course,
more ice cream, the better.
This is matcha ice cream,
and I think this is the first time
I'm having Teddy Grimm's since the second grade.
Great matcha flavor,
and there's something about eating a whole bear.
I really like that,
because this is like the only time
I can actually eat a bear whole,
and it's not gonna claw me to death.
I'm at the New World Mall,
because I'm sorry,
I need a meaty, savory break from all the desserts.
I need some noodles.
My favorite noodle place in New World Mall.
Here it is, my favorite dish.
Big plate of beef with two extra orders of noodles
and extra spicy,
but it's still not spicy enough.
Can't forget the Chinese vinegar.
Walking around with this,
it's like walking around with the prettiest girl in school.
Everyone's looking at you.
Everyone's looking at you
and wondering where you got that.
Also, I need this,
because for however much dessert I had today,
I need just as much meat and noodles and spice
to counter that.
Otherwise, there's just no balance in the world.
Look at the noodles,
just emerging from the beefy surface.
Oh man, I need this.
I miss you so much.
I feel like Aquaman,
who just found water after three days in a desert.
Yeah, that's basically done.
I really needed that.
On to the last dessert place,
and this one, it's gonna be magnificent.
Final location.
Check out this dessert.
Last dessert of the day.
It's half a honeydew.
You know how Koreans love bingsu?
This is like bingsu, super saiyan-ized.
First of all, it's beautiful.
It's a work of art.
Got the green tea ice cream straight in the middle.
They don't waste anything.
They give you the little pieces of a melon,
and there's goodies waiting inside,
ready to be discovered.
Let's check it out.
If we remove one of these,
oh my God, these honeydew pods,
there is milk and bingsu underneath here,
and a lot more than that.
We got mochi-shaped ice, red bean, all in one spoonful,
and top that off with a honeydew.
That is a delicious bite.
This literally looks like a bingsu snowman melted,
and it became like this.
This is awesome.
I mean, there's so much going on in that bite.
You got the chill of the shaved ice,
the crunchiness of the honeydew.
Then, as you chew further, you got the beans,
you got the mochi.
This dessert is like an iceberg.
90% of what's going on is really below the surface.
It's like a never-ending,
you can eat everything inside this.
I'll show you guys.
I'm gonna remove the green tea ice cream for now.
Let it sit here.
Look at this, the powder, mochi, beans.
You see the bingsu?
And if you want, you can kind of dig into this melon,
because you can eat all that,
and just bring yourself a beautiful spoonful.
I mean, this is just all sorts of happiness on a spoon.
Crazy, it's really good.
They also have like a watermelon version,
but my thoughts is like,
watermelon is not in season right now.
Stick with the honeydew.
Definitely nothing wrong with this.
It's the first time you guys are having this.
See, I told you I'd share.
All right, guys, that's it for this dessert tour.
If you guys like this video,
there's so many more dessert places to go to,
so if you like it, let me know in the comments below.
Like this video, and I'll do a part two.
Thank you guys so much for watching.
See you later.
