Hey guys, day two of the road trip. Today I'm going to Charlotte, North slash South Carolina.
The plan originally was to go through Roanoke, Virginia, but there's nothing to eat over
there. But in Charlotte, there's a place I've been wanting to go for years and that is Price's
Chicken Coop. I heard about this on all the travel channels, all the food network shows.
I heard people even drive down there, drive to Charlotte from New York just for the fried
chicken because I met this guy. He was wearing a Price Chicken Coop t-shirt. I'm like, hey,
how's that? He's like, I love it. I drive there from New York. I'm like, whoa, that's
dedication. This place must be pretty good. Now the con is I add about an hour and a half
to my trip across the country, which is not too bad. Today is Saturday. They don't open
on Sunday, so I have to get there by 6 p.m. It's 9 a.m. now. I think it's a six hour drive,
so I should be there around three. You know what? I'm just going to not eat anything.
That'll be the first food I'll eat today. And I'm going to get there and that is going
to be my reward for just driving the whole way through. I thought when I left New York,
the traffic nightmare is over, but apparently it just follows me. I'm on 95 heading towards
Charlotte and this is, I've been stuck in this kind of stop and go traffic for literally,
literally the last hour. Here's how you know you're not in New York anymore. You look to
the car driving next to you and they either smile or wave and not like give you a dirty
look or do something even worse. Yeah, that's a, that's a change. That's refreshing. I feel
like living in New York, you definitely build up a lot of aggression, especially when you're
driving because driving in New York is, it's one of the most stress inducing things you
can do. So right now I feel pretty good. I feel pretty relaxed. I don't feel that crazy
pressure anymore of always having your hand by the, by the, by the car horn and ready
This is definitely enough for me to eat for the next few days. This might be the juiciest
piece of fried chicken I have ever had. Some of you guys don't like gizzards or liver.
I love both. Chicken liver. Sometimes the liver flavor is way too strong. Not too bad.
My hotel room in Charlotte. The A loft. I like this hotel because it's pretty simple
and it's a pretty modern design. It's always really clean. I think what I need after eating
entire chicken from Priceless Chicken Coop, delicious as it may be, is I'm in the Carolinas.
I need to have some barbecue. And yes, today and yes, right now. So I went to Midwood Barbecue
right around my hotel. It's ranked as the best barbecue place on TripAdvisor. Look how
beautiful that is. There's a little bit of fat at the end. That is, that is something
beyond words. See how easily this comes apart? See all the fat in between the lean meat?
This? It's like a little meat accordion. Have mercy on my soul. Oh my god. Oh my god I feel
so horrible I want to die. I just finished filming for today. So I went to Priceless
Chicken Coop and that film session was so difficult because there's no place to sit
inside. In this alley that I was in, in the initial part of the video, it's basically
like the unofficial alley dining room of Priceless Chicken Coop. Everybody was there eating chicken
so I was there as well. And then this band started playing and it was so loud. I don't
think I could talk into the microphone loud enough. So I left and went back to my car
and I found this little patch of grass. And I was like essentially Asian squatting there
filming the video. And then I realized all these ants were underneath me. Like literally
there was, I squandered upon like an ant battalion. So all the ants were beneath me and they were
like literally climbing into my chicken basket thing and my coleslaw and all this. Because
you know ants love chicken apparently. Love fried chicken. Finally finished filming that
video. Then I realized I'm leaving tomorrow morning. I gotta try some Carolina barbecue.
I mean I wanted to try Carolina barbecue because barbecue is different between the Carolinas
and Tennessee and Texas. So I'm going to Tennessee tomorrow. I'm going to head into Nashville.
But I needed to kind of like at least try the different types of barbecue. And I definitely
didn't go to one of those hole in the wall family owned establishments that you'll typically
see on like the travel channel or something. I went into, I think it's a chain, Midwood
Barbecue. I think it's a chain. But I looked around. It was ranked very high. So I went
there and got some stuff. Tasted really good. One thing I wish I would have gotten at one
of these mom and pop places is like the pulled pork which utilizes a lot of vinegar and spices
and that's what kind of Carolina barbecue is known for. But overall pretty good meal.
So I just got done filming that as well. Today was only a 6 hour drive. Felt like forever.
But tomorrow is an 8 hour drive to Nashville. And that like officially marks my, you know,
journey west. My journey to the west as a classic Chinese novel. But tomorrow is Nashville.
I got to get up early for that. So go up, work. And that ends today. Thank you guys
so much for watching. And keep following along. And I'll see you in Nashville. Knoxville first.
I used to live there. See ya.
