Sleeping Beauty by Walt Disney - Bedtime Stories for Kids
Sleeping Beauty is also known as The Beauty in the Sleeping Forest or The Sleeping Beauty in the Woods. The earliest version of the story is thought to be written between 1330 and 1344. The fairy tale has been adapted many times in various forms of entertainment. The most well-known is the Walt Disney Sleeping Beauty cartoon.
The story happens in a Kingdom where King Stefan and Queen Leah celebrate the birth of their daughter- Princess Aurora, after many years of having no children. The King and Queen proclaim this occasion a big holiday for their people and promise a marriage between her and Prince Phillip, the son of King Hubert, to unite the two kingdoms.
They invited a lot of guests, amongst whom were three good fairies Flora, Fauna and Merryweather. They bless Aurora with beauty and grace, but their gift is interrupted by an ugly fairy named Maleficent. Being hurt by not being invited to the ceremony, Maleficent curses Aurora to be dead before the sun sets on her sixteenth birthday. She will die of being pricked on her finger by the spindle of a spinning wheel.
The good fairy as her godmother Merryweather tries to undo the curse, but because her magic is not stronger than Maleficent’s, she can only change Maleficent’s curse from death to falling into a deep sleep for Aurora, and especially she will be woken up by a true love’s kiss.
To protect Aurora from the curse of Maleficent, King Stefan burns all spinning wheels in his kingdom and lets Aurora come to live with the fairies for her safety. However, everything still happens as the curse of Maleficent: Aurora still falls into a deep sleep at the age of 16 after her finger is pricked by a spinning wheel set up by Maleficent.
Before this incident, Aurora met Phillip- her future husband. They do not know they are engaged but fall for each other when they meet. When his father requests him to marry the princess he is betrothed to, Phillip turns down. But the good fairies tell him that Aurora- the girl he has met before- is also that princess. It makes Phillip so happy. They also reveal to Phillip that Aurora has been in a deep sleep by the curse of Maleficent, and only Phillip can rescue her.
Despite obstacles caused by Maleficent, Phillip, with the help of good fairies, can arrive at the castle where Aurora has been sleeping in depth. He awakens Aurora with a kiss, breaks the spell, and brings her back to the Kingdom. The royal couple organizes a big wedding and lives together happily ever after.
