While Ellen Degeneres spent much of last year wrapped up in controversy, it hasn’t kept her and her wife Portia DeRossi from their fave pastime – luxury real estate. The property-obsessed pair were revealed to be the secret buyers behind a sprawling $49 million compound in Montecito which they paid for in cash. While Ellen and Portia have bought and sold plenty of multi-million dollar properties over the years, this was by far the most expensive, and today we’ll check it out, along with some of their other luxury abodes. We even found the listings.
While Ellen DeGeneres spent much of last year wrapped up in controversy, it hasn't kept

The property-obsessed pair were revealed to be the secret buyers behind a sprawling $49

While Ellen and Portia have bought and sold plenty of multi-million dollar properties
over the years, this was by far the most expensive, and today we'll check it out, along with
some of their other luxury abodes.
In these videos we don't reveal any addresses, and even though I've done a house tour of
my own place, please do not show up at any private residences because it's not safe
for anyone.
Ellen DeGeneres and her longtime wife Portia de Rossi are known for being obsessed with
luxury real estate.
In fact, the couple has bought and sold over 20 properties since 2003, many from and to
other celebrities, so you already know they've also been gorgeous multi-million dollar homes.
While Ellen and Portia recently let go of two of their mansions, including their main
Bali-inspired estate for $33 million, they quickly filled the void, buying up even more
California real estate.
In fact, their new house, a 4.3 acre compound that resembles a small village, was the biggest
splurge yet.
With an estimated net worth of about $500 million, Ellen and Portia can afford to pay
multi-millions in cash for their homes.

Back in Fall 2020, Saturday Night Live alum Dennis Miller and his wife sold their mansion
in an off-market deal for a whopping $49 million in cash.
It was revealed that the buyers were none other than Ellen and Portia, who've been buying
up plenty of Santa Barbara homes.
This estate is located in the Montecito area, and it's more like a compound or village than
simply a home.
The 4.3 acre compound is a fairytale-style estate which sits behind walls and tall gates
for privacy, made up of five separate structures.
There's a guest house, detached garage building, a pool house, a barn designed by architect
Tom Kundig, and of course, a main mansion.
The 9,000 square foot main mansion was designed in the authentic South African, Cape Dutch
architectural style, and looks stunning from exterior views.
The former owners paid $11 million back in 2006 for the property, made up of three parcels
of land, and spent almost a decade combining the estates.
All five of the structures surround a central lily pond that's as big as a small lake, with
fish and equipped with a rowboat for a scenic ride.
Ellen and Portia's new property also boasts an infinity pool with views over the grounds
as it's set on a hill, and for those who love to jog or walk, there are many pathways and
trails throughout the entire compound.
Photos are minimal since the couple's home was never on the open market, but in total
the grounds boast 16,000 square feet of living space, an organic vegetable garden, mature
trees, parking space for over 30 cars, green hillsides, and plenty of outdoor lounge areas
to kick back and relax.
As if that massive property wasn't enough, Ellen and Portia also grabbed a smaller home
in the same Montecito neighborhood around June 2021 for $2.9 million, which is likely
an investment property.
This petite bungalow is still stunning, with two bedrooms and two baths within 1,700 square
feet of space.
The property is secluded and peaceful, but just steps from Butterfly Beach and the now
closed Four Seasons Resort.
Hidden at the end of a long driveway alongside three other homes, the abode is low-slung
and was built in 1954.
Ellen and Portia's house was upgraded and modernized, of course, having undergone renovations
over the years.
The bungalow is made up of rich materials and sun-filled common rooms inside, while
the grounds are full of dozens of palms and tropical plants.
The glassy home boasts an open concept floor plan centered around the kitchen.
The kitchen is sleek with stainless appliances, stone-topped island, and custom cabinets with
exotic wood, as well as a vaulted and beamed ceiling.
The cooking space opens to a sunny living room and an outdoor courtyard with fire pit,
fountain, and al fresco dining area.
Also off of the kitchen is a humble-sized guest room, and further down the hall is the
master wing of the home.
Here there's a bedroom with large sliders opening to the patio and the en-suite bath
has a soaking tub and seamless access to the courtyard.
Unfortunately, the property doesn't have a swimming pool, but according to listing materials,
the grounds are spacious enough to install one or even a guest house.
Considering Ellen and Portia just snagged those two new Montecito homes, they had no
use for their former one in the same area, also called Salt Hill.
The couple sold their Bali-style abode for $3.3 million after they acquired it in 2018
for $27 million.
Ellen and Portia spent another $1.9 million on a smaller adjacent home as well that they
included in the sale.
Not to mention, during the years they owned this property, they upgraded the entire estate
with a refreshed design and new state-of-the-art security system, boasting multiple cameras
and infrared lasers.
This mansion is also in Montecito, set on 9.23 acres of land, boasting multiple structures
with 10,700 square feet in total and 4 beds and 7 baths.
The entryway of the home has an entire glass wall that gives visitors a peek inside, and
the great room has an open concept with a wall of glass doors that slide out onto the
backyard patio.
Also on the main floor in Ellen's home is the Eat-in chef's kitchen with large center
island, and a den with two full walls of bookshelves.
The couple has plenty of living areas to relax in like dining rooms, family rooms, and more.
Not to mention there are indoor-outdoor style living spaces as well, which makes sense for
this Bali-inspired mansion.
The bedrooms are stunning and have high ceilings and glass sliding doors to let in natural
light and connect you with the gorgeous views outside.
The master suite has a massive walk-in closet and spacious ensuite bath with floating mirrors
and walls of windows.
Ellen and Portia also have a guest house on the property with two bathrooms of its own,
a full kitchen and more.
There's also a detached office and a private cabana with a full home gym and changing facilities.
The grounds are just as impressive as interiors, with a massive infinity pool with waterfall
design, which also overlooks the scenery and views of Pacific Ocean and mountains.
The lush landscaping has trees and plants resembling a tropical garden, and creating
more privacy in addition to the gates and secluded driveway to the house.
Elsewhere, the yard has a koi pond, tennis court, and numerous patios to entertain, as
well as a large succulent garden.
The backyard veranda is complete with a fire pit and outdoor dining area.
Alright, so now we've taken a look at Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi's newest mansions,
and the one they just let go of in the same Montecito neighbourhood.
Aside from the 49 million dollar compound the couple just snagged, and the nearby investment
bungalow, they maintain a modest condo elsewhere in Montecito as well.
Out of the 3 homes we looked at, which was your fave?
The Bali inspired abode they just sold, the ranch style compound, or the petite bungalow?
While we couldn't see much of the mega compound, the aerial views and outside design was enough
to win me over.
The unique spot would definitely be stunning inside as well, I can only imagine.
