You need to know the area of the countertops in your kitchen, but there is no concept of how to perform the measurement process. At first glance, this is a somewhat complicated job.
But don't worry! In this video, design consultant Gina Perez will show you how to calculate square feet for countertops in two easy steps.

👉Step 1 (0:29): Draw the countertop
- Draw out an L-shaped countertop and an island on paper.
- Determine where you want to put the kitchen equipment and where you want to put the island.

👉Step 2 (0:52): Measure the countertop
- Measure the length and width of the kitchen countertop and record the figures on drawings. The standard kitchen countertop width is 25 inches.
- Measure the width of the island at its widest point, the length of the island, and record the figures on drawings.
- Bring drawings to the design service. Here, people will use the computer's digital to to calculate square feet for countertops and custom quotes for you.

Or, if you want to do the caculation on your own, follow these steps:
- Calculate each section's area by multiplying length by depth.
- To calculate the total square inches, add the areas of all the parts together.
- To calculate square footage, divide the total in square inches by 144.
- To calculate your expected material costs, multiply the square footage by the countertop's retail price per square foot.
