We are in Uzbekistan. The border was actually quite easy to be honest. It's really close to Osh
and when we got there it was all pretty speedy, especially on the Kyrgyz side. The only issue
on the Uzbek side was that we're traveling on the British passport so Julia's Russian passport
is still in Bishkek and Julia's got the black new British passport and I've still got the
burgundy one and they've never seen Julia's one before so I guess there's not many tourists
over the past year or so so they were a bit confused. They probably just released these
passports not that long ago. But yeah it's always a confusion because we have two different
passports and everyone thinks that I'm from America as well. Yeah we're like they're both
British, they're both British. So we're checking them for ages apart from them. It's all good
isn't it? Yeah they were really really friendly like everyone at the border was really pleasant
and now we're going to try and find a way to get to Andydan where we can get a train to Tashkent
We made it to Andydan.
Tashkent was quite fun. We met loads of people. It was so fun. People are so friendly and really
chatty even if they don't speak any similar languages to you they still talk. Yeah it was
so funny like the guy, we were standing in opposite corners and the guy that was standing
next to me, I saw he had a bag and then throughout the way I thought I heard chickens and I was like
no it must be something in the car. I thought it was a baby crying. He had a bag full of chickens
and I got given grapes. Yeah and I had a load of like elders around me and then there was one guy
that could sort of speak Russian that was sort of like translating with them and they were all just
saying like welcome, welcome, like having tourists here. Really nice. First impressions? Awesome.
So we're gonna try and find a train station now and get a train to Tashkent. What time is it?
Our train's at four and the time now is 20 to 12. No I put my watch back I think that's changed
this. I think it is 20 to 12. So yeah we've got like four hours to wait so I guess if we find
the station then we'll think about potentially getting something to do. I saw beeline earlier
actually. I wouldn't get them anymore. True. We found the Vokzal. So a little fun fact, Vokzal which
comes from the Russian word Vokzal which means train station actually came from the word Vokzal
which is the place in London and apparently a Russian delegation in like the 1800s I think
came to London and to look at this new invention of a train sometime in the 1800s and then they were
taken to Vokzal and I think that's how the word train station Vokzal in Russian got its name.
Interesting facts. Who told us that? I don't know. I should have worked at it. I remember
hearing it but I don't know where. No? It is very interesting. Like random. Random yeah yeah.
So we've only got an hour to go to the train now. We've only got a sim card and while we were in
there there was a strange guy in shorts in the Fergana valley of all places. He just got stuck
with us. And we can't get rid of him. Just begging non-stop. Oh yeah so basically Matt went on the
same marshrutka as us. Well not exactly the same one. He took marshrutka from the border and
some old guy really shouted at him for wearing shorts. Because Uzbekistan is quite a conservative
country men don't wear shorts. They hide their legs and Matt didn't so he. I think they're just
jealous. Rookie mistake. I think that's the problem. My curved calves are on fire. He just
couldn't take it. By the way when we say Matt not me. Oh yeah. I'm cultured all right. This Matt.
The other Matt. The non-cultured Matt. The sexy carved Matt.
So we're just on the way back to the station and the train's in
about 40 minutes and yeah it's about five hours to Tashkent.
We've got cakes. We're gonna die. We're gonna die. Oh god.
There we go.
Do you want to go in first? Uzbek trains are pretty decent. Look at the leg room. I mean we're
small anyway but look at the leg room. Beautiful. Palm rests. Everything. It's not southern rail
is it?
You said five and a half hours? It should go like that. There's even TVs.
Yeah it's good. I didn't expect anything but for a seat to train as well.
I wonder why they train like that. I mean the beds have got to be, mattresses have got to be like
king beds and stuff. We're setting off on a massive disappointment.
So we were going to do it the old school way and get the metro and then walk but on Yandex our
taxi is 99p to get to where we need to go. And it would be a lot quicker. Yeah we can get there in
10 minutes so we're gonna do it. We're going for that.
The address that is put on booking.com is wrong and we just asked some people where the right
address is and it shouldn't be too far. Should it? Apparently it's a seven minute walk. Oh so yeah.
We're not quite sure why this address because this is like a block of flats past number 10 so
we're not really sure. Maybe it doesn't exist. That'd be funny. That's why the ride was like
a pound because we had to walk more than half way. There we were. So yeah it's only a pound.
We can actually afford it.
So this is looking more like it. We've gone to the 12 floor, 12 story flats. Sorry I'm losing my
voice. And this is looking more like houses which the hotel looked like on the pictures.
By the way we just want to say the people here so far like in Uzbekistan since we've come today
have been so helpful. Literally can't do enough. I know we mentioned it earlier but it just keeps
coming. Yeah like everyone's trying to literally lead you to wherever you ask them where it is.
They feel like walking us to places and stuff. Amazing.
Nice. Nice. Nice.
