🚨 MAN UTD DECISION ON NEW STRIKER, CHELSEA DIRECTOR UPDATE, GAVI…

Why may United change the strategy? Why not signing a striker during the summer? Hello guys, welcome back on the channel, Fabrizio Romano here, as always to up the tuna transfer market and today guys we discuss about Gavi, we discuss about James Rodriguez but also Manchester United decision on the striker, what really happened during the summer and Chelsea new director. So let's jump into it together. And guys I wanted to start with the news of the last hours we had important news because Barcelona officially confirmed that Gavi extended his contract in June 2026. It's an important news because we had many rumors about Bayern, Liverpool, European top clubs interested in Gavi as he was out of contract next summer but Barcelona were able to find an agreement with Gavi with his agent Ivan de la Pena and to complete this deal till 2026 with a new release clause 1 billion euros. So really important news for Barca fans. Here we go also for James Rodriguez who is joining Olympiacos. He's joining on loan from Alrayan, there is an agreement with the player, he had his medical in Greece in the last hours and so everything is done. James Rodriguez after many many rumors is joining Olympiacos and he will find again his friend Marcelo in the Greek club. So many things going on guys and as always with free agents or with markets still open we have many things going on in other countries not just in the top European main leagues but important to mention something on Man United because many of you asked me during the whole summer and also in the last few days why Man United changed the strategy, why not signing a striker during the summer. First point, Ralf Ragnik is the man who wanted a new striker so with Ralf Ragnik in charge and ready to work together with Erik Den Haag the plan was to go immediately for a new striker. Then with Ragnik leaving the club and with Erik Den Haag in full power they tried to sign a striker but they wanted to find different priorities like the centre-back with Lisandro Martinez, of course the midfielder, Casemiro arrived and Frankie de Jong was top of the list, the winger with Anthony. So the strategy changed during the summer also because of the opportunities but Man United tried to sign a new centre striker. They were exploring many options around Europe, we know about Marko Arnautovic's deal collapsing but also other names were on Manchester United table but the feeling internally at the club with the board and with the manager is that this summer was really complicated after Darwin Nunez's deal collapsing because Man United wanted Darwin Nunez but Liverpool were offering Champions League football, a really important contract so the deal was not possible for United and they didn't want to enter into any bidding war for him so this is why United decided to wait, that the best moment to sign a new striker could be next summer and not this summer. So this is why the strategy changed and this is why the focus of Man United on the new striker remains for the future, of course it also depends on what's going to happen with Cristiano Ronaldo, with Anthony Martial's contract, so there are many steps to see but Man United decided to move on the new striker for the next summer. Let's see who will move on the next summer on a new striker or not, also Chelsea because Chelsea will be really busy in the next months, now they have a new manager like Graham Potter and they're looking for a new director of football, they're looking for a new sport director, the man who can decide together with the manager, together with Tott Bolli, who can give a vision to the Chelsea project. Let me say that Chelsea are exploring different candidates, there are three four names in the list, there are many candidates, they are speaking to many potential directors for Chelsea job, we know about the rumours coming from France and England for Luis Campos, a genius, Luis Campos has been incredible with Lille, with Monaco, many other experiences, now he's at Paris Saint-Germain, fully focused on Paris Saint-Germain project but we will see what happens with Luis Campos because it's true that Chelsea are interested in Luis Campos as the potential man for their project but he's really busy and focusing on Paris Saint-Germain, so I will keep you posted on Campos once things will be clear on Campos and Chelsea side. At the moment it's true that there are talks but still nothing close to being completed, so I will keep you posted at the right moment on Campos. Christoph Freund, this director coming from the Red Bull group, from Red Bull Salzburg, is a serious candidate, alongside Paul Mitchell had some contacts from Monaco but still nothing advanced, we also had any rumours on Michael Edwards of course but at the moment still nothing advanced with Chelsea because he's still keen on remaining for a free time from football after his incredible experience at Liverpool, so at the moment Freund is a serious candidate, he did an incredible job with Salzburg, with the talents especially, because what he did with Cesco, of course signing Haaland from Molde, Haaland was already famous but trusting him at Salzburg was an important step, so he did a very good job but he's focused on the Red Bull group, there are talks with Chelsea, there are positive conversations but we have to see if Chelsea will make the final decision on him or not. For sure Tod Bolli is tempted by Freund as a possibility, he's speaking to other candidates, another candidate who had a discussion with Tod Bolli and could be part of this list is Lee Dykes, the head of recruitment at Bradford, he attracted interest from Manchester United, you remember earlier in the summer he was one of the names they considered because he did an incredible job for Bradford, he joined in April 2019 and they moved quickly to become a mid-table club in Premier League with a very low budget, I have some of the names he signed and this shows how good has been his work, like Yvan Thonet for 5.5 million, Vitaly Giant for just 500k but also David Raya 3 million and Brian Mbeumo for 5 million, he did an incredible job at Bradford for those who don't know him but Lee Dykes is highly rated in football industry and, really important to say, he's considered one of the pioneers of modern day use of data in football, so this is why he also attracted Chelsea as one of the potential candidates, he was one of the first to identify Michailo Modric as potential top talent for the future, he was negotiating to bring him at Bradford, so Lee Dykes is one of the names, Luis Campos we have to see what happens with PSG but there have been talks, of course different kind of profiles there are in the list at Chelsea and Christoph Freund another name they're considering, so I will keep you posted but there is a list, Todd Ball is on it and it will be fast because Chelsea want a director as soon as possible, as I mentioned they have different skills all the directors they are considering but Chelsea will go for it to work together with Todd Ball and of course with Graham Potter.
