Welcome to Orebic in Croatia. We spent last night camping here and today we are ready for a full
day of exploring Dalmatia. Oh that is smooth. Let me have a go. I'm ready. I can't find my glasses.
So this morning we're on the way to a place called Tripanj and apparently from there
you can get a ferry from the peninsula here back over to the mainland. That's what we read
online anyway but I suppose the ferries are supposed to be going often but we're not sure
so we're going to see where we get there hopefully. We found it. Can't really tell from here but the
queue goes all the way around there but the guy said that everyone sitting here should get on one
ferry. Yeah. Okay we're on. We're one of the last people on not because we were that far back in the
queue but we saw everyone walking past us when we were sitting in the queue in the car and we're
thinking what's going on? Why are they all going to get tickets? And we thought oh Sado's going to get
tickets in advance. We'll just wait. Then we got up and he's like ticket please. Oh no. So I had to park
the car just next to the ferry and run to the ticket office. We managed to get one in time
and then just get on this ferry so yeah we were never panicking. We just went through our first
toll road in Croatia and this time we got a ticket and we're gonna pay when we exit the road.
See how much it's going to be. What a lovely surprise. How much was the damage?
€6.76. That's not too bad. The road's been brilliant so. Yeah and to be honest there's been
no traffic on there as well so you've just been we've just been able to just cruise for a while
because it's been nice driving. So as you probably saw from the signs that we filmed on the way
we are in the city of Split. Let's go and have a look around. So 480 AD Split was actually the
place that the last legal emperor of the Roman Empire was killed. Interesting. This is the oldest
Catholic cathedral in the world. We just seen a t-shirt being sold in this little bazaar.
It said it's not a beer belly it's a gas tank for a sex machine. I mean as far as the excuses
go this one's pretty good. It's interesting how different Split is to Dubrovnik. To be honest we
didn't know what to expect but we thought they were probably going to be pretty similar if not
the same but they are actually completely different and also this is the most amount
of tourists we've seen since in anywhere we've been over the past six months. There's a hell
of a lot of tourists even more than Kotor where there was a lot but here it's packed. It's almost
you're walking in a queue. You're walking in a queue yeah literally yeah.
The old town didn't know how big the city is and we just realized that it's the second biggest city
in Croatia. So it must be good luck to rub this geezer's toe because the whole statue is black
but the toe is bright gold and we've seen a couple of people sort of scrubbing it as they walk past.
Rub his toe if you're here. It's good luck. Right it's 10 past one and we haven't actually
eaten today so we're gonna go and grab some food but we're gonna go outside the city because
we think it might be a little bit cheaper when you're outside so yeah.
So we just had some food and it definitely seemed like the place to be. It's a pub
like kind of place and the parking was completely packed so we managed to park ourselves
and we had this dish that's called pastisada and you know like some dishes and some foods you try
and like you know they're nice and when you remember you know food that you liked for life
you think yeah that's nice. This dish I was waiting to have it again since the moment we
tried it last time. It's one of the things when you try it you know it's gonna be there for the
hands down my favorite dishes in the whole world. Like the meat is falling apart and the fact that
it's served with gnocchi is just honestly world changing honestly. I just love it but
the star of the show is obviously the sauce. The meat gravy is just I've never tried anything like
it. It's honestly there are so many different flavors in there and it's almost like caramelized
so it's got a bit of sweetness to it as well and it's so rich. I think I would be happy just with
a bowl of that sauce and like a load of gnocchi or just bread you know that would do me but honestly
I feel so happy right now that we finally had it. It's so incredibly delicious. So for a bit of
context before I start wild camping in Croatia is illegal and if you get caught you can get an 80
euro fine. I think it starts at 80 euros so while we're in Croatia we're not wild camping which is
a real shame because we really enjoyed it and it would save us a hell of a lot of money and it'd
just be nice it'd be a good experience and a cool thing to show but so we decided we're going to go
to campsites on the way up and yeah obviously you saw the video yesterday if you didn't give it a
watch and tonight we were driving around or this evening we were driving around looking for a
we didn't have much luck to be honest so every campsite the prices in this area around 30 euros
yes started around 30 euros didn't they yeah starting at 30 euros so the funny thing is we
just you know out of curiosity had a look at an actual room and we found a guest house for 25 euros
which is less than paying for a tent and going for all this you know private bathroom private
bathroom actually yeah and without like getting turned out and you know doing all the work
for your sleep and the thing is well in Albania we had such an amazing campsite yeah and I think
you ruined everything because now we're like everywhere seems like a shithole compared to that
yeah so yeah we're going to the to our guest house now we just arrived and this place is
incredible let me show you the room first are you ready yes bed yep bathroom main door
cupboard tv chest of drawers balcony out it's an olive tree pomegranates
this is the only tree this is i don't know what tree i think it's a walnut tree there's something
there growing hopefully you can see the sky right let's go for a walk around the village before it
gets dark so for a very quick walk it's getting dark we're both just saying that we absolutely
love coming to villages you just feel like we love visiting cities don't get me wrong and it's
interesting to see in the history and stuff but there's something about coming to a village that's
just so much better like you just get no feeling here somewhere it's just nice love it just
relaxing good for the soul the thing is we're only like 30 minutes away from the city but already you
can feel how the pace of life is slower and more relaxed just feels like real croatia the only
thing is every single country we go to where we don't speak the native language i'm like why don't
we every single country you want to be able to connect to be able to ask all these questions but
and we have this dish that's called pastisada
so the town that we've booked this room for tonight in we just found out it's called gorish
so in croatia we stayed in gorish in armenia we stayed in goris and in georgia we stayed in gory
it's like i mean yeah i don't really know why i'm telling you that but i just think it's quite
interesting three countries three gorises where do we go from here this is crazy
