Shopping at Lowes & Moving Houseplants Inside
That time of year again! First frost and hard freeze of the year was forecasted to blow through so I had to move all of the houseplants inside for winter. Before getting into all of that, I also figured it would be a good idea to go to Lowes Home Improvement to get the mulch needed for the cold hardy bananas and gingers. If you wait to long to buy it, the bags are frozen and not as easy to load and unload. While shopping at Lowes I spent a little time wandering around to get a look at what was in store. 'I always enjoy shopping for houseplants and thought it was nice because i haven't done that for a long time on the channel. I only grabbed a Kangaroo Paw Fern ( Microsorum diversifolium ) so as much fun as it would have been, no epic plant haul this time.
Finally after getting all of the mulch and returning home, I spent a while cleaning and organizing my garage, which is where I store all of the tropical plants and houseplants. I did an extensive video on the growspace last year, I have it linked at the end of this video, I will also link it below this description. Once everything was cleaned and organized, it was time to move the houseplants inside for winter. Moving the plants inside is always fun because it gives me a chance to have an individual look each plant in the collection without them being drowned out by everything around them. I was most impressed this year with the growth on the Areca palm, it grew huge! The thai constellation variegated monstera also really impressed me with some amazing new growth from the main stem and roots. I have had that monstera for a long time and have been waiting for it to out new growth from it's lower stems! Finally! Once those new growths take off, I can chop and propagate the top portion of the monstera. I always consider the moving of the plants to be a sort of houseplant tour or plant update, but this time I really only focused on a few plants. At some point I will do a tour of my plants.
