‘Very Bumpy Ride’ Ahead for Big Tech Antitrust Bills: Rep. Cawthorn
The outsized power of big tech—mainly Facebook, Google, Amazon and also Twitter—is one of the few issues in Washington that animates lawmakers on both sides of the aisle.
The CEOs of those companies have been hauled into Congressional hearings several times over the last year, but aside from some heated sharable exchanges, it seems little else gets accomplished.
Now, five pieces of antitrust legislation taking aim at big tech have been introduced in the House, collectively known as “A Stronger Online Economy: Opportunity, Innovation, and Choice.”
We speak with Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC), a co-sponsor of all five bills. He and the other sponsors call it the most aggressive, bipartisan effort in the last 100 years to strengthen America's antitrust laws.
