Lawyers: Jan. 6 Detainees Subject to ‘Blatantly Unconstitutional’ Jail Conditions

It's been nearly six months since the unfortunate events of January 6, when post-election frustrations—felt by large swaths of the country—culminated in the breach of the Capitol building. The violence that ensued has been condemned by all sides. So far, nearly 500 people have been arrested and as FBI investigations continue, more arrests are likely to come.

Some of the accused have been in jail the entire time, awaiting trial, with likely many more months to come. Regardless of what you think about that day’s events, the stories being told by lawyers and family members of what’s happening to detainees in prison should alarm any American.

We’re joined today by two lawyers representing January 6 detainees, John Pierce and Steven Metcalf II. And by Ned Lang, the father of defendant Jake Lang who says he’s receiving particularly harsh treatment including extensive periods of solitary confinement, threats of worse treatment, and lack of proper access to legal counsel.
