Welcome to Rangaroa friends. Looks like it's going to be
a beautiful day. The first, wi-fi.
Rangaroa is a horizontal blue abyss. The lagoon is so vast the entire island of
Tahiti could fit inside with room to spare.
And while it's one of the largest atolls in the world, only 2,500 people live here.
So sleepy is the vibe and other than the buzz from a supply ship
there isn't much going on above sea level.
What is it? So we have bottlenose dolphins that love to play in this pass
and this is also what the pass would look like when you
do not want to try to come in or leave. Oh yeah there they are.
Look at them.
Yeah so welcome to Josephine's. This is where we found wi-fi and a super
nice family that owns and runs the place.
Gives us wi-fi for a whopping two bucks per device for the whole day.
And they have of course a restaurant and everything else but this fabulous
view of the pass is what you come for and the lovely
breeze. Yeah I mean this is kind of ideal working conditions I would say.
Best office we've seen in French Polynesia.
Besides our own boat.
This is always the interesting part. This is our current tracker here
on our charts and it says right here we're almost at the maximum going
out at 3.23 knots. That's what it looks like.
Okay a couple shots of espresso, videos uploaded, put this stuff away
and go scuba. This is about to calm down in a couple hours
and then we're gonna go out there and hopefully dive the wall with some
hammerheads. That is the dream at least. I can't say
it's the plan I can say it's the dream. It's starting to calm down already.
I can still see waves but I'm still down for hammerheads so
rolling waves or not.
There's a good chance we're going to experience
a fair amount of current today so our friends of SB Holiday are going to be
our spotter and they're going to take us out.
We're diving just outside the pass at the wall looking for hammerheads.
I think these dudes are super cool and not just because they have big luscious
lips. They're hermaphrodites. They can live to
be up to 50 years old but somewhere around age nine
the females, for whatever reason, can turn into males.
That's so crazy. Check out this triggerfish
working like he's at a construction zone. These guys can dig out crabs, worms, and
sea urchins so there must be something tasty under
there. We did the dinghy swap and the diver swap
and they've been down for about 45 minutes.
We'll be looking for their sausage, their big red six-foot sausage coming up here
pretty soon. The reason we're doing it like this is
there's current constantly moving obviously because it's a pass but
there's no mooring ball so we can't leave from a mooring ball
and come back to the same place. You're just kind of going along this wall
or going to the pass and those are the two dives.
We're keeping our eyes out. It should be up soon.
Look who decided to say hello.
Oh I'm gonna be so jealous if they swam with the dolphins. The dolphins are still
right behind us.
Oh I see this big sausage.
Yeah big red sausage.
So how was it? Well we didn't see any hammerheads.
Did you see dolphins? Uh just a few. Damn it.
Wait did you really see hammerheads? No we didn't see hammerheads. But you did
see the dolphins. We saw, well first we saw a school of
eagle rays about I don't know 30 or so
and then the dolphins came and played with us for quite a while.
And then there's more. And then a manta ray came by.
What? No. And then I was swimming with the manta ray and then the dolphins came back
and they're swimming with the manta ray. I'm like that's freaking awesome.
That was so amazing. Oh damn it. And then we were like struggling like do we go
with the dolphins? Do we go with the manta ray?
Oh and a lot of little fish. A lot of little fish.
That's all we saw was little fish. Yeah. Oh man. It was amazing.
Yeah I know that's all we saw. Well I'm stoked you had a good time. Well I have
to tell you you know up until we saw all that I was
thinking oh this is kind of not the greatest place you know.
It's all it takes is a bunch of dolphins and a manta ray. And some eagle rays.
And some eagle rays. And perspective is totally different.
Maybe tomorrow. Put your clothes back on? Put my clothes on back on yeah.
All right put the camera away before it gets salty. Good raining morning.
It's always raining here in the morning. It is always raining here in the morning.
It is permission day. Okay got it.
Okay got it. Wow it's not even bucket. It's got one.
Jeez Danny. Living on the edge. Think we should follow the channel?
You know. Follow me. Don't want to kill the boat.
Minion. Yep.
Go ahead and say it. That's what she said.
There's no markings so this is the only way to know I'm going the right way.
A safe way. Well we're gonna leave the boys to figure out the fuel situation.
They're not quite sure what's going on over
there. I think there's some sort of like they said they've never heard of duty
free. So we may have to pay full price but
is what it is. Off to the grocery store we go.
Made it. Carrots and eggs and that's about it yeah. How about you? How
was uh how was fuel? When we got here he said
he didn't know what duty free fuel was so we got nervous but then
it all worked out. Duty free fuel. Totally loaded.
Got tons of gas so we can go to Fakarava. Not worry about
really anything because fuel there we heard is extremely expensive.
It's gonna be a wet ride back there I think. A slow wet ride.
That's a lot of weight.
Hear that? Two working engines. We've been busy. Busy little beavers
fixing engines and battens and
all the other crap that's been slowly breaking.
All right so let's vamanos. Vamanos. Getting close.
Okay that's good. Floating the chain helps protect the wreath.
That's why we do it. It's a bit of a pain. It's all good. Two big balls.
That's what we need to float our chain. Continue.
We are up. You want to see something crazy? Our G4 chain that was supposed to last
10 years is obviously a knockoff. The one from Panama.
That is all of the chain flaking off. The galvanizing.
This chain is not going to last much longer. Real G4 chain.
The high test. The proper galvanization should last
10 years no problem. So we definitely got screwed in Panama but
we'll find some chain maybe in Samoa. Lined up.
Looks a little rough. Yeah I don't think it'll be too bad.
It is outgoing so. It just turned outgoing.
And we have a north wind so it's gonna be choppy.
Hi dolphin.
Crazy ass dolphins.
Oh my gosh.
Oh man this is awesome.
It's a little nuts.
Oh there's a jelly. There's like purple jelly right there.
They are massive. They're like the size of our head.
Watch out. We're gonna. Not too bad. Only a couple of big crashes.
I hear dishes rattling in there. That might not be so great.
I felt like I had control the whole time so other than
rough. That was it. It was okay. I was totally giddy like a
school kid just like on a roller coaster. That was awesome
with the dolphins. Man. Good job honey. I give you a kiss but
I'm all salty. Yeah that's okay. I'll pass. Sweaty and salty.
All right next stop Bacarava. Hey guys thanks for watching.
